More than likely you have a faulty EGR Valve Pressure Sensor, especially if your EGR Valve Pressure Sensor is the original metal type. The new sensor is made of plastic and doesn't corrode like the old design. This sensor is located on the Intake Manifold.

This is the code number - pctech1_40.jpg

Here is the sensor: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/2001-Mercury-Sable/EGR-Valve-Pressure-Sensor/_/N-jfkhrZ93y2i

It is also possible that the EGR Valve has a clogged port, but this is less likely.

Yes, the definition of the code P0401 is: "exhaust gas recirculation--insufficient flow detected."

This means the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is not working properly. The electrical wiring leading up to this valve could be faulty. If there is a vacuum line to this valve, the line could be disconnected, or cracked. The valve itself may be faulty (electric coil problem or vacuum diaphragm leak) or choked with carbon deposits and need to be cleaned. The passages in the cylinder head that lead to this valve could be choked with carbon deposits and need to be cleaned.

Trouble code P0401

code p0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system-insufficient flow detected--- Causes ---hose leak/blockage, basic setting not carried out( if applicable)wiring--EGR valve/solenoid---ECM I would check the EGR valve solenoid first. Replace the faulty units with genuine one because most aftermarket units are not set for OEM cpu units and are not completely
compatible.

Check engine light code P0401 98 Ford expedition

OBD-II Trouble Code P0401 - Insufficient EGR Flow

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor EGR (DPFE). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR. You may notice drivability problems such as pinging (a.k.a. pre-ignition knock) when the engine is under load or the vehicle is at higher speeds. There may also be other symptoms.

A code P0401 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

Check it and keep us updated. Hope this helps (remember to rating this free answer).

I have check engine light on, trouble code p0401, how can I fix it. I'll appreciate. Thank's

P0401 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation, insufficient flow.

I would start with testing the EGR valve and checking the source line for a vacuum leak. EGR may need to be cleaned.
