  1. First, you will need to depressurize your fuel system. Remove the Fuel Pump Relay, start the vehicle and run until it shuts off, should only take a few seconds.
  2. The Fuel Pressure Regulator is held in place on the Fuel Rail using a Retaining Ring, or Snap Ring.
  3. You will need to remove the Vacuum Hose connected to the Fuel Pressure Regulator before you remove the retaining ring.
  4. You need a pair of Snap Ring Pliers to remove this retaining ring.
  5. Once the retaining ring is removed, slide the old Fuel Pressure Regulator out, and install the new one. Lubricate the O rings on the new part and the fuel line before assembly.
  6. After reinserting the Snap Ring, ensure that it is snapped in place completely.
  7. Reinstall the Vacuum hose and reconnect your Fuel Pump Relay. Turn the Ignition to On, and check for leaks around the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
  8. If no leaks are found, proceed to start the vehicle.

I've replaced the map sensor and for some reason now the fuel rail builds up pressure, and then it stalls out and backfires. what could be the problem?

the fuel rail always does that. that is its #1 job. to hold a steady pressure (until vacuum drops)
that is the job of the fuel pressure regulator.
i see you work with no tools? or gauges? the fuel pressure test is first.
not the map , the map, is like a rock, lasts near for ever.
but not any PFreg.
the FSM covers the reg tests.
i do these , (PSI spec tests) (by the book below and ASE books)
  • cranking pressure.
  • ildling pressure.
  • gun the throttle pressure , huge vacuum drop and pressure drops lower by about 6PSI , from cranking pressure.
  • I then cut the throttle and vacuum hits near 26inches and the fuel pressure drops to its most lowest now, (reg action) does it?

How do i change a fuel pressure regulator on a 1996 town and country lxi van ?... while driving the van shuts off and all rpms go down and then comes back on .. Someone told me to replace the fuel filter ,...

The filter needs to be replaced first, if there is not enough volume or pressure reaching the fuel rails, the pressure regulator it's not going to work, nor can it be tested accurately. Filter cost less and and is fairly easy to replace. The filter is located above and on the inboard side of the fuel tank

Fuel pressure should be 38-45 psi . Check the pressure before and after you replace the filter.

The pressure regulator is mounted on the throttle body with (2) 10mm bolts. It has a vacuum line and fuel line attached. Remove the vacuum line, make sure the line has vacuum on it, not cracked or broken--- If the vacuum line has any gas in it, replace the regulator.

I hope this helps & good luck with your Chrysler.

I have a 08/04 expedition.ive just put plugs in it for a couple misfire i have 5 random misfire codes and also a p2196 code.ive narrowed it down to the mass airflow or the feul pressure reg i...

Fuel pressure regulator either is stuck open(gives youlow fuel pressure) or stuck closed (gives you high fuel pressure) use your pressure gauge to determine which one and replace accordingly.

Mass air flow sensor either works , or doesn't work or is dirty.
Gonna need shop manual to test this item.

1988 mustang 5.0 efi flooding engine will not start fuel pump constantly running, fuel reg. replaced will actually fill and with fuel and only fire if pedal is to the floor?

Step one
Click the key forward BUT don't start the car listen for fuel pump to pressurize and shut off. But if the pump keeps running change the fuel pump relay switch under drivers seat. If its pressurizing and shuts off then its not your fuel pump. Fuel pressure at rail when idling is 30 psi.
Let me know what happens cause I know alot about Stangs had 2 5.0
