Question about 2004 Toyota Sienna

1 Answer

My electronic passenger side slider is jammed open. It will budge only about an inch or two. I've tried putting on manual, but it still won't budge.

This happened to me too. I had to remove the inside trim/handle cover to access all the levers that open the door. Toward the top of the collection of levers is one that releases the door from the "locked" position. I'm not sure what the permanent fix is for the problem...I still manually release the lever each time I need to open the door.

I had this same issue and dealt with it by manually releasing the cable with the trim cover removed for years. I just looked at is again (for the tenth time at least) and decided to compare it to the other side which is a manual door, but it still has many of the same levers and cables. I noticed that there is a plastic spacer that fits 3 levers together just below the center of the lever assembly. It is the one that includes the lock/unlock mechanism at the back, then the bottom of the door stop release lever, then one other. It's easy to miss unless you can compare it to the other sliding door. I only noticed it when I pulled the inside handle to open it. I will be scouring my fastener store to see what I can come up with to replace the broken piece that is no longer there.

The only suggestion is to place the vehicle on
stands & remove the wheel to check out the issue

To speculate from the internet-- is just that.

To have something happen while you sleep
is odd,so I would be inclined to go with something
like an electronic parking brake issue,if that applies

I have a 1988 vw cabriolet, it of course has a manual top, and it goes about 2/3 rds of the way then it wont budge anymore. ive got it down before, then the next day i tried to put it down and it wont go...

Make sure that as the top is folding backwards, the soft part of the top is not getting stuck in the hinges or between the support bars. If it is folding improperly, there might be a piece of the top that is keeping the rest from folding as it is supposed to. My father had this problem on his Mazda Miata once, but resolved it by paying closer attention when he opened it (he usually opened it from the driver's side, but once it started getting stuck, he had to walk around the car and make sure the passenger side was folding properly, too).
If it is not part of the soft top that is jamming you up, check the hinges all the way around. If one of them has a loose screw or broken rivit or something, that can jam it up too. Also, while the top is open, check the storage space that the top folds into -- if there is something in there, it could block the top from having the space to fold into.

DRiver's seat won't slide forward nor to the rear

on the 99 the front seats are identical. assuming there was little change in 2000 you unbolt both seats and move the passenger seat over to the driver side. while it is out, you set the sliders manually to be in the middle position and the passenger seat will be stuck there. If you can get light up inside there you will see a cable connector has released at one end meaning it will not release the dog to permit sliding so you may have to pull it manually with a vise grip in order to move the seat forward on the sliders to get at the bolt heads in the rear. unplug the battery before you unplug the seats.

Sliding door fails to latch

There is no "switch". The Sliding Doors should be manual anytime you try to open or close them. If not: then there is problem in the electronic system or the physical/mechanical side where something is jamming the door from opening or closing.
