Question about 2006 Fiat X1/9

2 Answers

I have a Diesel Fiat Punto 1.3 multi jet 2003. I cant start the car it keeps turning over and over and will not start. Ive had the pump and injectors checked, changed the starter motor, had new glow plugs. The car has been put on diagnostic machine, when the car is being tuned over its showing an intermitent fault showing the RPM signal is jumping to 0 to 300. i have changed camshaft and crackshaft censor. Please can someone help me ive spent a fortune?

First I would check to make sure you have the proper fuel pressure at the pump - you should have 2 pumps - one that delivers from the tank, and a high pressure pump for the injectors. Make sure that both are delivering properly - you may need to prime the pumps for quite some time if air got into the lines. Also make sure the cam / crank sensors wiring has no corrosion and is making proper contact. Between 0 to 300/400rpm the signal can be slightly erratic until the engine is started so I would not worry too much about that.

All what you have mentioned has been checked and are working fine. When trying to start the car it will start after turning over and over and will sometimes take up to 5 minutes to start. Also, it is exactly the same when the car is warm, it will start if you turn the engine off and turn back on straight it will start straight away but if you leave it 2-3 minutes it will turn over and over again. Any more suggestions?

It sounds like fuel pressure is leaking down. If this is a returnless fuel system, there may be a leaking check valve letting fuel pressure bleed down. If it is a return system it too could be leaking down - check if the fuel filter has an integrated check valve - you might need to replace the fuel filter if it has that check valve.

Fiat punto 1.4 diesel has faulty powersteering,it works and some times doesnt work

Could be the power steering pump. Could be the rack and pinion. If you have power assist, then this where I would start. Electrical and such.

What is the best way to remove the water pump?

To remove the water pump of Fiat Punto/Stilo:
1 Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
2 Drain the cooling system.
3 Remove the timing belt.
4 Unscrew the retaining nut and the three bolts and withdraw the coolant pump (see illustration). If the pump is stuck, tap it gently? using a soft-faced mallet - do not lever between the pump and cylinder block mating faces of Fiat Punto (Stilo). best-way-remove-water-pump-x4hf4jmz40to2ykgevxwzmql-3-0.jpg
