NO HOT AIR ON THE FRONT BACK IS BLOIG LITLE

  • Laura Slater Aug 18, 2012

Check the plug under the passenger side. It is known to melt on the Durangos. I heard you have to replace the motor, resistor and wiring harness to fix the problem. I am doing that now to mine. My plug has also been melting and getting to hot.

2005 Dodge Durango front fan wouldnt work, but rear would. It was the fan resister relay, $14 part. Located passenger side shin-level. Two 1/4" screws remove a black 1/2 round cover. 2 more just like it hold in relay. Pull out at an angle. Youll see a red clip that you slide sideways to unlock wire harness from relay. Replace. You will likely see a brown discoloration where the relay got hot

  • Kackman Dec 23, 2012

Yes - these instructions were perfect. I had the same problem with my front blower motor fan and replacing the resistor did the trick. The part cost me 12.99.

Do not pry off the face! You have a faulty blower motor resistor assembly. The part number is 04885635ab If you look on the bottom of the motor housing on the passenger side (about where the passenger toes would point) you will see a wire harness that is a long oval in shape and has 5 or 6 wires in it. You will need a 7 or 8mm 1/4 inch drive socket with a u-joint attachment. on the firewall side of the connector, there is a sliding lock that keeps the connector on the plug. you will have to slide the lock toward the drivers side and the squeeze a small blak tab to pull the connector off of the plug. Once the connector is off, use the socket to remove the 2 screws. It will drop right down once the screws are removed. Once it is removed, it looks like a 2 inch by 3 inch by 16th of an inch thick piece of metal with a plug on it. The resistor pack dissipates ALOT of heat so do not take it out until the truck has been off for 30 minutes or so. I priced the part at a dealership in Colorado 2 days ago for $12.77 YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE FACE OR DASH OFF! LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES AND GOOD LUCK. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS AND DOUBLE CHECK THE PART NUMBER BEFORE YOU PURCHASE AS YOU MIGHT HAVE A DIFFERENT REVISION.----ERIC

I had similar problem on 2003 Dodge Durango. Blower would only operate on "high", any other position it was off completely. The fix listed by chief rad worked perfectly and was a good description. My only adds would be my part number was 5174618AA and I got it for $13 from a Dodge dealership. The only tool needed was a 3/16 socket attached to a screwdriver handle.

the part you need to replace is the blower motor resistor assembly it has a screw on each side of it with a plug in th middle and for the most part it is on the passanger under the dash behind a black cover stop by a auto store and take a look at one and then you know what you are looking for and at the same time you can find out how much its going to cost i am only going to guess it somewhere around $15.00 to 25.00 dollars.

SOURCE: how to replace a blower motor resistor in a 2004 jeep liberty

I'm not 100% sure where it is, or possibly built right in to the dash control/fan switch, but I'd be tempted to stop & see the parts guy at the dealership, or another dealership, and ask if they have one, or a picture of one. Once you see it, you'll know where to look. Just a guess but quite often built right into switch on dash.

2000 durango blower

The blower motor is located under the passenger side of the dash. there should be power on the dark green wire at the blower motor. If there is no power check the 40 amp blower fuse and the blower relay. If there is power than ground the light green with white wire with the blower motor plugged in. If the blower does not come on than the blower is bad. If the blower comes on than you have a ground issue. The system is ground side controlled which means the switch provides ground. If the blower does not work on high I would suspect the ground wire is burnt on the backside of the switch since high speed bypasses the resistor.

There are the only three items remaining in the circuit. It could be Motor, resistors or on/off switch.
To test blower run a pair of jumper wires from battery to motor terminals and she if it runs .
Switch is easy : remove it from its connectors and jump the wires and see if it runs the motor.
Resistors your gonna ned shop manual fro to know the value of each speed so you can test them with an ohm meter. Good luck

Durango vent blower fan

The blower motor resistors are known for going bad. Usually its because the blower starts drawing too much current. What I would recommend doing if you can and have the tools, is to check the blower motor connector to make sure 12 volts is present. If so than I would recommend replacing the blower motor resistor. Then if the same issue ever happens again and the blower motor resistor is bad again, you will need to replace the blower motor and the blower resistor as the final repair.
Here is some info about testing the resistor using a multimeter it you have one:

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING- BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
Both the front blower motor resistor and the optional rear heater-A/C unit blower motor resistor can be diagnosed using the procedure that follows. For circuit descriptions and diagrams, refer to Air Conditioning/Heater in Group 8W - Wiring Diagrams.
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the blower motor resistor block.
  3. Check for continuity between each of the blower motor switch input terminals of the resistor and the resistor output terminal. In each case there should be continuity. If OK, repair the wire harness circuits between the blower motor switch and the blower motor resistor block or blower motor as required. If not OK, replace the faulty blower motor resistor block.
Here is the information on replacing the resistor:

REMOVAL
  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. From the passenger foot well area, remove the two hex screws used to secure the blower motor resistor.
  3. Unplug the front blower motor resistor from the wire harness connector.
  4. Remove the front blower motor resistor from the HVAC unit.
Here is an exploded view of the HVAC box. The resistor is #63 in the picture and the actual part may appear slightly different:

If any issues such as no voltage at blower connector or damaged or melted connector at the resistor then let me know.
