Turn your car on (or when you arrive at any destination) leave it turned on till the motor is warm.

Pull the dipstick for the transmission (looks the same as the oil dipstick it may be a little hard to find but it is not hidden) and check the level (it will say where the level needs to be when the motor is warm).

This isn't the soluition but if your transmission fluid levels are not low you may have transmission/electrical problems.

SOURCE: how to remove 2002 ford taurus radiator

Remove the rad support cover, remove the electric cooling fan and shroud, disconnect the tranny cooler lines, drain the cooling system, remove the upper and lower hoses, remove the rad brackets on top of the rad (one on each side), have someone hold the AC core out of the way and carefully slide the radiator up and out

SOURCE: Transmission trouble on 2002 Ford E-450 Super Duty

Hi, this is a defective OD shift solenoid that is located inside the trans pan. you will have to drop this pan in order to extract it for replacement. this solenoid, if damaged, cant initiate the shift sequence required for the OD to engage during operational procedures.

Simply replacing this solenoid will fix this issue.

NOw, concerning the erratic shifts. this is isolated within the transmission control module. it seems to be malfunctioning. you will need to replace this module as well.

look on the back of the sleeve the serpentine belt came in...it should have multiple diagrams showing the setup you just have to choose the one for your engine. to replace unbolt the back of the alternator remove the belt and work backwards to install belt.

you have to pull on the belt to get give from the tensioner unless you have the required tool... it makes it A LOT easier but nothing a little elbow grease cannot handle

Where is overdrive button located on 2002 Taurus

For a floor shift version, O/D (the D with a black square around it) is the overdrive position. There is no button.

For column shift, htere is a similar O/D position, no button.

Always drive in O/D except when climbing or descending steep hills.

please rate, thanks

1997 ford taurus 3.0 ltr trans wont shift into overdrive. first thrugh third gears shift fine but it doesnt try to shift into overdrive at all. the trans shows no signs of slipping and the fluid looks...

Solenoid pack in trans. Position module,is just that. Wrong guess. What tran model do you have? You also have other sensors to consider but have to know the trans your working on and the computer and shift stratagy involved to solve this, even if your throwing parts at it.
