1991 Isuzu Trooper Leaking Antifreeze I have had

1991 Isuzu Trooper Leaking Antifreeze I have had one auto repair shop tell me that it is a leak from the timming chain cover gasket, and the cost was over 800 to fix the problem. My concern is that they could be wrong because it had taken them 5 different times in 2 weeks to figure out I had a bad starter. On all 5 visits they kept charging me for "work" they did, but the trooper kept needing to go back the next day after bringing it home, so that really makes me question this diagnosis. Can you please tell me what to look for regarding if it is a leak from the timing chain gasket. Thak you

First, I recommend you find a different repair shop. You can sometimes tell where a coolant leak is form the " trial " it leaves behind [ white residue, or a clean area ]. Most times you need a ultra-violiet light and a tracer dye installed in the cooling system and pressurized. This would make the coolant glow under the light, making the leak stand out. An alternative is to try a good stop leak, there are several [ Bar's - for one that I've had good luck with older vehicles ] that won't clog up other parts of the system [ heater core, etc.] when installed according to thier instructions.

If your leak is at the front of the engine it's probably coming from the water pump. I don't know if there is a freeze plug on that engine. I would tell the repair people to fix your car at no charge or report the to them to the better business bureau.

Without knowing anymore, My guess would be thermostat. However, do you know if an adequate amount of antifreeze or water is currently in the radiator? Is there any antifreeze in the reservoir? Have you noticed any leaks under the vehicle?

replacing the head gasket solved one problem.
But, you have a leakage problem with oil and/or antifreeze now.
The head gasket could be failing again, or you have a cracked block or cylinder head.

Take it back to where it was worked on and say that you want it fixed, please.

good luck on this.

My 2000 Isuzu Trooper is useing about 1 quart every 300 miles and no leaking or noticable smoke. Any answers?

A "leak down" test will test the cylinder effectiveness, as will a compression test. These will tell you how good the engine is.

Is this hose a radiator hose? If this car is still leaking after the new clamp then its probibly the hose that is allowing the leak. It would be best to change it out while its only leaking then to wait for it to start gushing coolant out. Hope this helped =)

If you've just had the trans repaired then it definitely should not be leaking. I strongly recommend you take it back to the company that repaired it and get them to fix the problem. If it wasn't leaking before and is now, then they should repair it for free or at least discount the job. If it was leaking before and still is, then they should have fixed the leak while doing the repairs as it should have been obvious that there was a leak there. At the very least they should have told you that there was a leak and given you the option of fixing it.

Hope this helps,
Mark.

Undertermined coolant leak location

core plugs they are called ,not freeze plugs and they are for the manufacture of the block to remove the casting sand.if you keep antifreeze in system they do not corrode not sure what engine in these things only ever seen one that i imported for someone and the paperwork for this was horrendous.look behind engine with a torch and a mirror and i have no doubt you are correct about the core plugs .only ever seen a diesel version .
