Most likely a bad headlamp switch, UNLESS you have a remote starter hooked up. Corollas with a body computer really do not like remote starters, they cause really bizaare things to happen.

usually when this occurs (engine light) the ecm has detected some type of failure with one or components of the engine. ur gonna need to have a diagnostic scan done to determine the source. If the vehicle is OBD certified autozone part stores will do it for free. to be sure that its not just a minor "hickup" u can reset yous car's ecm urself by disconnecting the positive battery for 1 minute. if the engine light returns then i would have a diagnostic scan done. It seems there is some kind of air entering the carburator where its not required to do so or the idling soleniod switch is malfunctioning, thus not allowing the air to enter for the engine to idle .
Also recheck the vaccum pipes if they are correctly refitted per the schematics under the hood.More over remove the idling switch and blow some air to the hole probabley theres some kind of obstruction over there .

This is extremely common :)
With time your throttle body gets gummed up with oily residue from the PCV system. As this happens, the computer adapts to the restriction it causes in the throttle body.
When you unhook the battery, these learned values are lost and the default settings for idle control are used. Unfortunately the default settings are no longer sufficient to keep the idle correct with it all gummed up.
Take your intake hoses off the throttle bodies and clean the insides (open the throttle plates for better access) with a rag and some brake parts cleaner or throttle plate cleaner, available from your local parts store.
Reassemble and start the car, your idle problems should be gone immediately.
