It sounds like the starter has a bad spot in it,if you have someone try to start the car while you tap the starter at the same time it might jar it enough that it will start.this is also an indication that the starter has a bad spot in it and will have to be replaced.

The clicking you hear is the starter solenoid which is mounted on the top of the starter, it engages but the power is not delivered to the starter, this is caused by the heavy copper contacts that connect and deliver power to the starter motor are burnt away from normal wear and heat of the current flowing through them. The easiest thing to do is just replace the starter or the starter solenoid, most shops will want to replace the whole starter assembly or they will not guarantee the work.

2006 jeep liberty turn switch on and have power.starter and battery gd but wont turn over wont even click

the tests are all easy,
check fuses first, on all electric fails, starter ,charge and EFI are all electric systems.

super easy.
  1. jumper cable cranked with donor running car work?
  2. yes, battery is dead, or only discharged, charge it work?
  3. yes jumps but charge fails, bingo battery toast.
  4. so the jumper fails. in #1 , all that is a bad starting system. (not a part, the system)
  5. clean battery lugs. check fuses, and then hot wire the starter solenoid lug (dinky lug ,not huge one) (in park and wheels chocked keys off)
  6. ok that fails the starter is bad.
  7. ok that works. so the KEY line is dead. try starting in neutral yet?> bingo works, bad PRNDL switch on tranny side.
  8. the KEY line can be interrupted with some alarms, on a jeep it has Immobilizer that cuts fuel not cranking. so.... PRNDL switch bad or the key switch is self .
  9. Using any voltmeter to do the checks is a WIN. 12.6vdc is a charged battery is yours 12.6v rested/???????????

I have a 95 mercury sable and when i try to start it the check engine light comes on and it starts clicking inside the car and under the hood it will not start

possible alarm - security system issue ?
If the battery is low or has a bad connection, the starter will make the electrical system pulse.

My 1995 jeep grand cherokee Laredo won't start, or

You might not believe this, but check your battery. Some of these vehicles have cut-outs when the battery level goes below a preset amount.
I work on Ford brands and on them, a low battery level will even disconnect the Alternator circuit and mess with the starter. Some even act up when the battery slightly dips below 12 volts.

Your antitheft can make your starter cut out. And If you think about it, all of the measurements to make the engine run are based on feedback of voltage and amperage. This is how the engine management system adjusts. If your prime source of power is low, then all of the following electrical readings will be low. Some may be too low to work.

Your fuelpump will hold pressure in a closed system for hours. The fuel pressure regulator will command the fuelpump to stop working if the fuel pressure is at maximum. Without responses from the other components and after satisfactory pressure, the fuelpump will turn off.

Trouble starting

sounds like your fuel pump is about to go bad. when you turn the key on, it engages the fuel pump for about 3 seconds. If you cycle the key on and off for 3-4 times it should create enough fuel pressure to start the jeep. Try it. Let me know.

Won't start after winter in garage with fuel stabiliser

your battery is dead. The electric clicking is a telltale sign that the battery is weak or depleted and does not have enough juice to turn over the starter. This is extremely common when the car is left to sit for an extended period without being used.

the clicking you hear is the starter solenoid trying to engage the starter, but the battery is to weak to do so.

There are a couple solutions. First you can get a set of jumper cables and jump the s2000 with anther battery. Once the car is running the battery will alutomatically begin to recharge.

the second is to buy and use whats called a trickle charger or 'battery tenderizer' this is a small device that you plug into the car and it will automatically keep the battery charged over extended periods of time without the risk of over charging the battery. If you use one of these it will also slowly charge yoru current battery enough overnight for it to work in the morning.

98 jeepwrangler won't start

This is basic, but first off, try to shift it into neutral, and try to start it. It is easy for the linkage to get out of adjustment, where it thinks the jeep is in gear. If that does not work, make sure you have battery power to the ignition and starter.

95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
