Yes, that is exactly what I would suspect. If it has a serpentine belt then replace it. If it has a V belt driving the A/C then make sure it is adjusted properly. If it seems tight then replace the belt.

2004 sorento squeals when start air conditioner

The air conditioning compressor is belt driven by the engine. The compressor has a clutch on it that engages when the AC is turned on. The compressor then puts more load on the drive belt. Likely the drive belt is loose, worn or may have oil on it. Hope this helps.

New fan belt and the car is making a loud squealing noise

Either the water pump is bad or the power steering pump or the tensioner or maybe the tension on the belt is insufficient. If you have air conditioning, the bearing could be bad in that but that's a bit remote.

How can I figure out what's squealing? Where can I find belt diagrams?

I had something similar with two seperate vehicles after replacing everything I could think of it turned out to be a bad bearing in my alternator on both vehicles.

I have a loud squealing noise upon starting the car. the squealing normally lasts about 30-45 seconds. sometimes the noise will appear aftrer pulling off from a stopped position, as well. all belts

Try to tighten the belts a little firm.Sounds like when engine idling no squelling only when about to take off .Some times belts may seem ok on the outside but if you look on inner side you tend to see cracks in the belts .

Belt squeals and it is hard to steer.

check to see if the belt is loose, if it is a sepentine belt, [one that is routed for your power steering , air conditioning, and pulleys it just might need replaced, also chech to see if the tensioner pulley has not lost some of it's tension. ]

When I start my car it squeals really loud and smells like a vaccuum belt is burning. it also overheats while sitting still unless the air conditioner is on and now won't pass emissions. what could be...

Your squeal sounds like you have a pulley frozen, or sticking, that the belt can't turn, and it will burn. You need to determine which pulley or idler pulley it is.
The cooling problem may be related (water pump) , or just a failing fan switch, or fan. See if you have two, as some vehicles have one, and a second for air conditioning.

there's your problem......you have a cheap alternator. Buy atleast refurbished never used once especially from a junk yard. Sounds like the pulley is worn.
