Question about Chrysler 300C

1 Answer

2005 300c has 26,000 miles on it. When we fill it with gas it stalls. We do not overfill nor do we wait until the pump clicks off. We stop before that. Spent $600 with local dealer in May, filled it 6 times since and today it stalled again 4 times in less than 2 miles. No lights come on as it stalls. The last repair was: new vapor canister, natural vacuum leak detector, proportional purge solenoid, and leak detection pump filter. That was in May 2008.

I had the same problem and replaced the Purge Valve - no more problems! Are you absolutely sure they replaced your Purge Valve? If you overfill or take a hard right turn when tank is full, fuel slops into the vent cannister (normal). If the Purge Valve is leaking that fuel is sucked into the engine manifold and stalls the engine. See the posts on Chrysler 300 Forums for more details.

Same problem with my 2005 300c. It's happened five times to me, including stalling on the expressway. I looked at the posts. Too many differing views - without a real solution. Talk to three Chrysler mechanics and got three different "solutions." As much as I love this car (bought new June 2004), I'm ready to get rid of it and get a BMW or a Benz.

Check your alternator if you can get it to start and stay running. If not then you may want to consider taking it off the car and having a parts store bench test it. It's most likely that.

Secondary air injection system malfunction...Check your vacuum lines, and your air pump. Have you recently filled the gas tank in the car? I mean filled it like you keep topping it until the gas handle clicks and you try to squeeze more into the tanks??? If yes then you probably overfilled it and now the raw gas has gotten into the Charcoal evap canister and screwed the system up.

After a full tank of gas car would stall out, after restarting and driving for 2 miles car was hesitant and then would stall out again, I was told it was the catalytic converter and then the o2 sensor and...

50/50...
tries to fill the tank and don't mount filler cap into gas tank. don't leave immediately the gas station but go after 5 minutes and see if the problem appear more than 2 miles.
deactivates the carbon filter before filling the tank completely
If the problem recurs with fuel cap without being mounted, IT IS NOT charcoal filter

Just got my 2000 VW New Beetle with 3/4 tank of gas. Drove it 36 miles and its below 1/2 tank. Could it be the gas that they put in? Or something wrong with the car itself?

On just about every vehicle I have ever seen, the fuel gauge will move faster from 1/2 to 1/4 (I never let a tank run past 1/4. Bad for the fuel pump) than from full to 3/4 or 3/4 to 1/2.
Do a mileage check. Fill the tank until the pump stops, reset your trip or note your odometer miles. Dive a few days or a number of miles. Fill the tank again until the pump stops and not the amont it took to fill. Note the number of miles you put on and do the math.

Car will stall within a mile after filling the fuel tank. Can be restarted and runs with no problem. No trouble codes stored.

You can cause vapor issues overfilling new cars...it has to do with the pressure the return lines expect.

Try to stop filling when the pump stops. Might be easy fix.
