It is actually rain water coming in from a bad seal around your trunk. The only way I have found to figure it out is to fold the seat down while someone else runs a water hose around all the gaps around the trunk while you lay in the back and watch for water. It can come in around the edges of the trunk, the spot where your emblem goes, and your tail light assembly.

SOURCE: Water in spare tire compartment

I ran into this same problem. I took my 2006 Equinox to a dealer and they found that the water was coming in where the wire harness for the hatch back goes in to meet with the rest of the car on the passenger side near the hinge. There was no sealant there. They put some sealant on and problem was solved. It might be a good idea to look here first.

SOURCE: Water in spare tire compartment of trunk after heavy rain.

U need to carefully check the seams of the sheetmetal for any sign of water or dirt from the road, there is no common leak on these cars, in fact they seldom leak anywhere, the water is most likely splash up from the road, unless u left something out like it was sitting when this water accumulated. Let me know that info.

SOURCE: water in the trunk where the spare tire is...

It's most likely the weather stripping along the top of your trunk, where the hinges are. There is probably a bad contact, or missing the weather stripping.

pour a small amount of water down the back of the car, give it some time and then take a look inside maybe you will see where it's dripping from. if you can, fold your seats down and sit inside the car with a flashlight while someone else empties a glass of water approx. on your back window, roof of car etc.

Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: My G6 trunk pools water in the spare tire

It is coming from the break light in the center of the trunk. Pull it out dry it put a beed of clear auto sealer on gasket and your leak is gone.. This is a common problem on the G6.

Water leaking inside the boot of my 2016 Altis

I would tend to believe that the rubber gasket that runs around the trunk compartment is torn or out of place allowing water to leak into the trunk. Check the rubber all the way around to see if its complete without any rips, or sagging. If its sagging you can buy weather stripping adhesive and glue it back into place. I would also check the under neath of the car to see if you might have any rust or possibly run over something and poked a hole into the bottom of the spare tire well. Its been know to happen.

Can I put full size spare in spare compartment on my highlander 2015

if it came with a space saver tire chances are the compartment was designed for a smaller diameter wheel. measure the spare compartment hole diameter and height and then measure a full size tire the same way for your car, to see if it will fit. not likely though.

Check the weather stripping around the trunk lid. An older car like that could have a bad seal.

Trying to locate spare tire and tire jack. purchased used. cannot find jack or spare tire

You can locate your spare tire under and between the rear tires.
Your jack is located in a compartment in a left rear compartment near the door. You'll see it when you open the rear gate. Check the left panel and lift the lever.

We have a 1999 nissan altima with water getting into the trunk, in the spare tire compartment. the carpet and cover for the spare compartment are wet and getting mildew as a result. when last checked,...

i have this exact same problem on mine. i see the plugs too, not sure if this is for wiring or possibly to let water out if it ever got in. but doesn't seem to be where the water is coming from. had the problem for years but finally took off the carpet on the walls. there is dust on the metal from it being untouched for so long. but i can see water streaks in the dust and i followed it. for mine atleast, it seems to be coming from where metal meets at the front of the trunk where the latch is at. looks like weather stripping should be protecting it, but its so old i dont think its doing its job. when i pulled the weather stripping off a bit, it had water inside. it has to be getting inside somehow and coming over the metal. defeating its purpose. im just finding it tricky to find the type of weather stripping the car came with as other generic types dont seem to be doing the job

I am finding about 2-5 gallons of water in my spare tire compartment of my 2005 chevy equinox, I vacuum it out and within a week or two it returns. don't know how it's getting in? HELP!!!

Pending where you live, it may be condensation build up in the spare tire itself due to the heat inside the compartment...try taking the tire out for a time period and drive without a spare. That sounds risky yes...but it could be just the spare itself. In that case you'd just need to go out and purchase another spare and take the old one back to the dealer and tell them that something is wrong with the spare that you are giving them. If its not the tire...go to the dealer and have it looked at by a mechanic.
Hope this helps :)

2006 Equinox water in spare compartment and wet backseat carpet!

I am going threw the same situation with the leaking water under the front dash and standing water in the carpeting causing mold..... also i had a leak in the back hatch causing standing water in the spare tire hold. Just took it to the dealership and its a sealant leak, apparently its common in 2006 Equinox's. Mine is costing $850 to fix the seals, but would be $2000 to do the seals and carpet. My partners' dad is going to replace my carpeting, but i am having the dealership fix the seal leaks.
