Not Additives or Fluids correct shift issues,
like you have

I don't think that the Dealer really cares

Of coarse there are solutions
That is what the aftermarket works
on every day

Check with a trans repair shop &
have them check on ATSG.com

When driving down the road should the transmission be in drive or overdrive?

Overdrive.

Unless you're towing something, or maybe if you're going up a hill and the transmission is 'hunting' for the proper gear. You could temporarily pop it out of OD until you get to the top of the hill.

Overdrive will allow the motor to spin more slowly, thus burning less gas.

I dont know when and when not to use the overdrive on a 2000 grandmarquis

Overdrive is engaged for highway driving. Afterwards, it automatically disengages whenever brakes are applied. Overdrive cannot be engaged before a certain speed threshold is reached, peventing its use during city driving.

1997 Mercury Mountaineer Overdrive flashing

When the OD light flashes it means the transmission has developed a fault. As to what the fault may be is yet to be seen without the system being scanned. In many cases the light indicates the transmission is slipping, you may not feel it slipping, but the computer (called the PCM) senses it through the internal speed sensors that measure main shaft input speed and shaft output speed in RPM. Other problems like shift solenoids can cause this as well. Another factor can be the transmission fluid is worn out, it should be replaced along with a new filter every 60,000 miles minimum.

Driving over 40mph hearing almost like a siren aka whining noise coming from the passenger side only happens when im driving more then 20min the siren tends to increase louder when driving faster when i...

Because the whine is still happening at high speed when your in neutral and low rpms it should not be engine or tranny related. I would start looking at wheel related issues. Hubs probably.

2000 ford expedition will not change gears after reaching 40mph then car goes into neutral. Then if i put the car into overdrive it runs fine.

The infamous Exploder transmission. Try a tranny flush and new gasket. More likely it needs a new transmission.

What is the "overdrive" for?

overdrive is just what it sounds like-the transmission turns slower than the engine, allowing more speed with less fuel. It is only applicable in higher speed, low load situations like open road driving, but most modern cars with overdrive will allow engagement at speeds as low as 35 MPH to save fuel. To a point, overdrive is effective for some city driving, but if you constantly do stop and go driving, in city enviornments at speeds under 40, it is best for the engine (and performance) to 'lock out' overdrive.

Do you drive in overdrive all the time or 3rd/1994 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed/6 cyl

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
It's not wise to drive on overdrive everytime. When you are cruising that's when OD should beused.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 05 300 C will stall when I reach the 40mph mark?

Hi,
Check the transmission fluid level. If full, you may have a transmission problem.
Good luck!

My 2002 trailblazer is making a noise when I go over 45 mph and appears to not be going in gear quickly at that speed

Check your transmission fluid level and/or have the fluid changed. If problem persist have a transmission professional at a dealership or transmission shop service it.
