Question about 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

2 Answers

I purchased a 2005 Santa Fe..had it a day and noticed a loud squeeling noise..does it when slowing down for a stop sign ...when you pull out it keeps squeeling for a short distanse...sometimes right after you start it up...mechanic changed the serpentine belt...at that time noticed power steering fluid leaking and said i would have to replace power steering pump...which they haven't done yet..and the squeeling noise is back ..could that be from the power steering pump?

The pump runs off a belt as well, if there is a pump problem it might make the belt squeel

Any moisture that comes in contact with the pulley or belt will cause the belt to squeak, or squeal...this is telling you that the belt is slipping, and will possibly affect the smoothness of your steering manuevers...be sure to check the power steering connection lines before replacing the pump...Hope this helps.

Is it a "wine" noise that gets louder when you rev it up? Sounds like an idler pulley. Is it a 3.3L motor?

There is a squeeling by the belt/pulley area

It's a loose belt for sure.

If you have a spring loaded tensioner, and the belt has stretched with time, the tensioner will reach the limits of its travel without tensioning the belt enough to prevent that squeal.

If it has an adjustable tensioner, tighten the belt up.

Our 2001 Santa Fe has developed a roar. I thought

If your noise is a low pitch rumble that gets louder the faster you go, it likely is a wheel bearing that is the cause. Another sign that the noise is from a wheel bearing is if the noise tends to get louder when steering one direction at a steady speed, and quieter when steering the other direction. A transmission noise does not change with the steering.

Engine noise on area of pulleys and sometimes engine tries to sto

Don't know if this helps. Had squeel in belt area. Occasionally engine would stop when squeel got loud and sometimes engine would try to quit while going at various speeds. Found tensioner pulley was bad and changed it. Still squeeled and engine would stop when squeel got loud. This time while sitting in yard. Further checking found binding in power steering pump. Will be putting on new one tomorrow. Hope it works. Will update.
