Could be expensive as these units are cheap ,as its a four litre its a big one and i would expect to pay around 300/350 euros for one without the O2 sensors which i would change at the same time .plus your local labour charge

Ford explorer oxygen sensor

the o2 sensor is located by the catalytic converter and anaylyses the exhaust emissions,it may need a tune up but first i'd check all air intake hoses for leaks ,signs of wear etc as if the air/fuel mixture going into engine isn't correct the emissions will not be either ,you can get fuel additives which will clean cylinder, valves and the cat converter so try this first , if the light is still on get the garage to clear the OBD memory and retest drive as a stored code isn't always automaticly erased

Cant find base1 sensor2 on a 96 ford explorer 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive

It's called bank, not base. On a v6 or v8, each side of the engine is called a bank. Bank 1 is always the side where the number 1 cylinder is located. On Fords, number 1 is on the right bank or side, the right as if you were sitting in the vehicle, so well, the passenger side.
Sensor 2 is the oxygen sensor in the exhaust stream after the catalytic converter (somebody recently called it the cadillac converter!). You have two oxygen sensors on the right bank, one before the cat and sensor 2 is after the cat. The only purpose of sensor 2 is so the computer can monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter. It compares the readings from sensor 1 and sensor 2. Sensor 1 information is how the computer adjusts fuel trim.

I have trouble code P0420 catylast bank 1 below thresh hold what does this mean

The computer uses data from the front and rear O2 sensor to monitor catalytic converter activity. The sensors are probably telling the computer the cat is not functioning correctly.
The problem could be the cat, or something else including the fuel system or cooling system.

I need a picture of the 02 sensors on a 1996 ford explorer

No you don't

You have front or upstrean O2 Sensors before the exhaust
converters & downstream or monitors in the converter outlets

You obviously have wires going to them

If you went under the vehicle you wouldn't be asking

I just got the code po 420 how do i fix it

Most likely a worn out exhaust converter

PO 420 -- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
that is the right or pass side

Rear or Monitor Sensors could be bad ,if converter is less
than ten years old

My ford 1996 explore keeps shutting down on me, what am i suppose to do.

A "shutdown" will generate a light. When engine lite is on, take it to Autozone and have them run an ODB test.
They will specify the cause of the light.... and therefore, the cause of the shut down.

Possibles are:
1. clogged fuel filter
2. failing fuel pump
3. Dirt in intake system
4. clogged exhaust (cat. converter)
