Well if it makes a thumping noise when you drive it is bent. If you hit something hard like a curb it could very well be out of alignment. If you notice the car seems to also go up and down while you drive it probably has a bent axle. Dangers of a bent axle are that it can superheat and break and cause a lot more damage and you might injure yourself. It's probably not a bent axle if you pulls or lists to the side. That is caused by poor wheel and tire alignment.

Honda Rancher 420 4x4 has clicking noise coming from axle area, not for sure what going on, could it be bearings?

Hi if this is happening on turns then You probably have a bad axle outer bearings, you can try and look to see if one of the axle boots is ripped letting the grease to leak out, Again if this is happening on turns you will need to figure out witch front axle it is, just replace that axle, on Honda's replacing the boot and adding grease really never work, there is usually too much damage to the 5 balls in the axle cup, I hope this helps, let me know.

I hit the curb realy bad in an accident, my rear right side rim wabbles , I replaced the rim thinking it was jst the rim,!But I think its the axle!,shld I replace the whole rear end?

I dont know whar kind of vehicle or how many miles on it but if its rear wheel drive you can replace either. the rear end will cost more than an axle but if it has alot of miles on it plus you dont know about the rest of the componenents inside do the whole thing

Bad clunk from rear of vehicle can drive it

if it is a metallic clicking/grinding, then it is the axle bearings. get them serviced in a shop (unless you know a buddy with a press), because, if it really is the half axle bearings, it could eventually grind thru your axle, and cause an accident

How to install a new rear axle in a 02 gmc sierra 1500

Jack it up ,pull the wheel on the bad axle side, remove the diff. cover,
remove the small pin holding the large pin in,slide the big pin out ,push the axle in from the wheel end, remove the c-clip in the axle and slide it out.
Would be wise to change the seal at the end af the axle tube at the same time. Slide the new axle in ,put the c-clip in the axle ,push it back in the carrier and reinstall the large pin and keeper pin,"Right Stuff" sealer makes a good cover gasket,3/8 drive for the fill plug, some gear iol and you're done,,not a bad job,no special tools required.

you don't repair it, you replace it. jack it up, remove the brakes, and all the brake assembly from that axle,, then remove the bearing cap,, cotter pin, and nut from the spindle , ( you might want to replace the wheel bearing at the same time due to the bad axle ) remove the axle bolts,, and shock bolts, from the axle beam. remove axle beam assembly

What would cause a bad clicking noise in the front end. I usually don't hear it until I have been at freeway speeds and then slow down. It also dose it when I back up and turn at the same time. I think it...

Clicking noise sounds very much like a bad CV joint, usually pronounced on turns. Not a bad job to replace. Remove wheel, caliper, rotor and three spline head bolts securing bearing housing to axle support. Then tap axle flange behind spindle until entire axle assy.slides out of support. It's much easier to replace entire axle assy. Includes axle, CV joint, boot, and lube. Try AutoZone for parts, very reasonable. Good Luck!

Front end makes noise when turning. Could this be tire rods or axle problem. I had motor mounts replaced when the mounts went bad could this the moving motor cause damage to front wheel area?

yes, popping when turning is usually caused by worn out CV joints in axles. Check for torn CV boots. When a boot tears, dirt gets into the joint a wears it prematurely. If you find tears, it is easiest to replace the whole half-axle than to fix the CV. Let me know if you have more questions.

How to know if a universal joint is going bad on a 2000 Grand Prix?

You have cv joints, they are in the cv axle on each side of the car,two axles, there are two in each axle,if you turn the car sharp either way,you can hear the click click ,click in witch ever side it is on,that will be the axle that needs to be replaced, the axle for this car at napa auto parts is only about 53.00 exchange.

Left front popping. already relaced hub assembly. What next????

8002ae8b.gif The top is a 216. The bottom one is a 248. Your option's list calss it something different so I don't know which it is. It sounds like you've got a problem with the u-joint. They're easy to check. If you see a lot of bright orange rust around them, they're bad. Also, put the truck in 4 wheel drive, make sure the front axle engages, and grab the front driveshaft and turn it back and forth sharply while watching the u-joint. If it's bad you'll see the axle side roate a little bit but not the wheel side.
