You'll have to do a compression test. You can rent a testing gauge from Auto Zone and it comes with instructions on how to do the test. Post up your results here and your engine size or engine code (8th VIN character) and I can help you more. Another thing you can try is to spray starter fluid in the intake to see if it starts and runs on the fluid for a couple of seconds. Just because your pump is running doesn't mean it is building enough fuel pressure.

My 1995 honda civic started sputtering yesterday, it got progressively worse. Today it stopped on the side of the road. It won't start now, just turns over.

First, Distributor: Coil (which is in your distributor); igniter (ignition control module) also in your distributor, rotor, distributor cap--all possibilities, especially is you are not getting spark to the plugs.
Next, Fuel pump: It is fairly typical for honda electric fuel pumps (it is IN your gas tank, under an access cover that is under the rear seat) to, when failing, work, then not work, then work, then stop working altogether. If you are not getting fuel to your fuel rail, then it's a good bet that it's your fuel pump. (If you can hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key to ON, but without turning the car over, that would indicate that your fuel pump is working. Have someone listen over the back seat, or maybe you can hear it if everything else is quiet). If it runs, it could be a plugged fuel filter, but that's not as much of a possibility.
So, check the distributor components (getting spark?) and the fuel pump (getting gas?).
Hope this helps you get started on the problem.

1986 944 Turbo wont start.Just died on me going around corner, will start with starting fluid.

It sounds like you don't have sufficient fuel.
Do you hear the fuel pump turned on when you put the key on?
If it is not, need to check the fuel pump relay.
Jump wire at the fuel pump relay to to turn it on to see if Fuel pump is working
Need to check if the fuel delivered to fuel distributor in spec.
Jump wire your relay 60s to check how much gas delivered to the fuel distributor, by disconnecting the gas input at fuel distributor and catching fuel in a calibrated glass container. The gas quantity ml divided by 60 sec to have a flow ml/s. If this is not meeting spec then change the fuel pump. Good luck.

I would check the fuel pump by disconnecting the fuel line between fuel filter and fuel pump.Turn the key on and see if fuel comes out with a strong stream. If no fuel check fuse if good replace pump.

check if your fuel pump works. or if you fuel filter is clean. the engine yellow icon on the warning panel is ON? this will tell you if your pump is developing sufficient fuel to be able to start 30psi.
