Question about 1992 Jeep Wrangler

I have a problem with my toyota 4wd manual car, i recently changed clutch plate,pressure plate and release bearing,but now i have aproblem with gear one and reverse gear, whenever i engage them ,they make alot of vibration and the car even want to stop. what is the problem

Did you resurface flywheel? If not, heat cracks and hot spots in flywheel are creating "chatter" and are eating your new clutch plate.

The Clutch disc and Release Bearing for the TD4-Freelander, were replaced recently. The Pressure Plate was still in a good condition.Gears difficult to engage.Please advise.Tks.John.


Most likely still has air in hydraulic clutch slave system. Many transmisions will have dificulty shifting if clutch doesn't full disengage. If air is in system it won't allow full disengage thus difficulty in shifting even possible grinding gears

I have a Mazda 3 1.6i 77kw. Changed the clutch recently. When at stop light the body of the car and steering wheel shakes. Also, when in first gear , when i push the gas and release the clutch the car


that is what we called dragging when you replace the clutch did you check the pressure plate? it tends to worn the plate with the lining so when you replace the lining it touches an uneven surfaces thats why it hesitates if its not too late when replacing the clutch include the pressure place release bearings and all the knick knacks that goes with so you'll a have a trouble free clutch

Squealing noise when releasing clutch


You might have to change your release bearing. When you change this, you have to change the pressure plate, Clutch disk, the pilot bearing as well to assure you of a longer time without problems.

My manual transmission 1994 Toyota rav 4 4wd with cdiff lock won't go into gear with the engine on. Only when it is off! I can put it in 2nd then drive off & it drives with no problems once I get it going...


I'm assuming you're talking about a manual transmission and it not going into gear. The problem isn't the transmission. It's the clutch. It isn't disengaging completely when the clutch pedal is depressed. I've never worked on a Rav-4 but must assume it has a hydraulic clutch. It could be an issue with the hydraulic system, especially if the condition came on suddenly, but more likely given it's age it is a worn out pressure plate. This is a job for a professional. There are three basic parts to be replaced: clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing. Also, the flywheel should be removed and resurfaced by a machine shop. Don't be surprised if the shop also tells you that the clutch slave-cylinder needs replaced.

Whinning noise from engine when changing gear went to pull off in 1st gear car stalled and now cannot engae gears is this just the clutch cable or something else


Hi, I think the noise you were getting while changing gear is most likely to be the clutch release
bearing ( as you press the clutch down the release bearing contacts the clutch pressure plate
fingers ).
The whinning noise is the bearing seizing up,
Unfortunately it looks like yours has damaged the fingers of the pressure plate so the clutch is not disengaging to allow you to select a gear.
A clutch kit will need to be fitted this contains clutch plate, pressure plate, release beaing
I hope this dos`nt turn out to be to expensive for you

1998 ford contour 2.5 ltr manual,stuck in second and have to hold the clutch in to move it.how do i solve this issue?

For additional information, refer to Section 308-01 . For specified clutch system service procedures. For additional information, refer to Section 308-02 . For a complete description of the manual transaxle. For additional information, refer to Section 308-03 .
The clutch system includes:
  • Flywheel.
  • Clutch disc.
  • Clutch pressure plate.
  • Clutch master cylinder.
  • Clutch slave cylinder.
  • Clutch release fork.
  • Clutch release hub and bearing.
The clutch master cylinder transmits fluid pressure to the slave cylinder, which in turn moves the clutch release fork and the clutch release hub and bearing.
The clutch master cylinder uses brake fluid and shares a common reservoir with the brake master cylinder
The clutch is a single plate, dry-friction disc with a diaphragm-style spring clutch pressure plate. The clutch disc has a hub which is splined to the input shaft. The clutch disc has friction material where it contacts the flywheel and the clutch pressure plate. Torsion springs on the clutch disc help absorb the engine torque pulses. The clutch pressure plate applies pressure to the clutch disc, holding it tightly against the surface of the flywheel.
In the engaged position, the diaphragm spring holds the clutch pressure plate against the clutch disc, so that engine torque is transmitted to the input shaft. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the clutch release hub and bearing pushes the diaphragm spring center toward the flywheel. The diaphragm spring pivots at the fulcrum, relieving the load on the clutch pressure plate. Steel spring straps riveted to the clutch pressure plate cover pull the clutch pressure plate from the clutch disc, disengaging the engine torque from the transaxle and enabling the gears to be changed.

Inspection and Verification - MTX-75
The following checks should be carried out before repairing or replacing the transaxle:
Poor gear shifting
  1. Check the operation of the clutch: Lay a block of wood approx. 25 mm thick under the clutch pedal and depress the clutch pedal as far as the stop. If 1st or 2nd gear can be selected with no problem with the engine running and the parking brake applied, the clutch is OK. If the gear cannot be selected, repair the clutch.
  1. Check the selector mechanism:
    • The free play in the gearshift lever must be no more than 15 mm.
      • If the gearshift lever free play is too great, check the gearshift cables and replace them if necessary.
    • If the gearshift lever free play is OK, adjust the gearshift linkage. For additional information, refer to Section 308-06 .
  1. Check the transaxle fluid level and top up with Automatic Transmission Fluid ESD-M2C186-A if necessary.

Clutch Whine on Toyota 4WD Pickup


Bad bearings. Perhaps a throw out bearing. The pressure on it varies depending on whether your pushing on the pedal or not, and how much. If the noise occured only when the truck is moving, then I would say it is the input bearing. Changed alot of those years ago.

Clutch slip problem when gears are changed after 4000 rpm


you have 20k miles after the clutch has been changed, now are you used to drving clutch, secondly is it hydraulic or cable controled clutc?

if you are used to drving clutch sys probable cause is defective pressure plate or the throwout bearing is not fully releasing in other words the clutch is partialy applied all the time because of the re;ease bearing not fully releasing!!

I have and 03 Toyota hilux turbo deisel and there seems to be a whistling noise coming from the gear box, but if I rest my foot on the clutch it goes away. Would you know what this might be?? Regards...


Sound like the diaphragm springs on the pressure plate. are being worn by the release bearing. The release bearing seizes up and causes a whistling sound when parked, with out clutch depressed. You will eventually. lose you clutch if you let this persist. The best thing you can do is replace the clutch pressure, clutch, reliese bearing, and pilot bearing. All this comes with a clutch kit.
I also recomend resurfacing your flywheel.

-to remove your pilot bearing you can fill the hole with grease and take a 3/8 extention and hit the extention into hole. this usual allows the pilot bearing to come out.

I bet your pressure plate will look like this
