Question about 1997 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

Flooding on startup and has slow acceleration. Pulled the MAF? sensor on the back of the air intake at the filter and it does run better but slow power. My truck is a 97 with a 4.6 V8. Also has a slightly rough idle. With the sensor plugged back in, it cranks too long and there is a bad smell of raw gas....

Check for a vacuum or air leak. Possibly a hose or intake manifold. Odd that it runs better on default MAF settings with MAF unplugged, but if no codes indicating a circuit problem, IDK. Could be a vacuum leak.

1992 olds cutlass supreme wont accelerate when pushing the gas pedal

Check oil first, Low oil sensor will shut down if more than a quart low. Change fuel filter, could be fuel starvation, change the air filter. stopped up air filter will put MAF sensor out of range. PERFORM OBDII SCAN SOON.

My chevy blazer 2000 ha a p0101 code changed the mass air flow sensor still does not want to accelerate

Hi there:
This code is set when the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter is not sending the PCM the correct information. This can be due to a bad conection of the rubber intake hose between the MAF and the Throttle plate opening, a dirty air filter, a dirty mass air flow or a bad mass air flow.

Most programmer have you tie into the iat sensor in the mass air flow. this can cause the the iat sensor oto short out.

Hope helps.

Slow response when accelarating

It may be the MAF sensor they fooled with is defective, disconnect it from the system and rive the car, it should run OK with the sensor disconnected, if it does run better then replace the MAF sensor.

It idles very low and then dies, it drives but very very slow 0 pick up

lots of possibilities
in no particular order...
  • MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow)
  • TP sensor (throttle Position)
  • IAC motor (Idle Air Control)
  • Torque converter
  • restricted exhaust
  • IAT sensor (Intake Air Temperature)
  • EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
  • Restricted fuel flow
  • clogged intake
  • burnt valves
However, based on the low idle and slow acceleration I am leading towards the MAF

Have you been to the parts store and replaced anything yet?

Has anyone "pulled" codes?

Please update and let me know how else I can assist you today!

REPLACING mass air flow sensor

The mass flow sensor on the 1999 intrigue is along the intake tube right after the air filter intake housing. Loosen the two clamps that hold the MAF sensor between the Air filter box cover and air intake tube, disconnect the wire leads at the MAF sensor connection and remove the MAF. Note it's uncommon for the MAF sensor to go bad and 95% of the time, cleaning it with MAF sensor with MAF cleaner will fix any problem it may of had to trigger the DTC codes.
Start with trying to clean it first just by following the instruction on the MAF cleaner. This should save you time and money to get your Intrigue running 100% again soon.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Engine sputters while check engine light flashes rapidly. sometimes the 4wd light comes on, the VDC and SLIP light always comes on. At that point the engine sputters, no acceleration possible, still have...

The issue is your Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) and more than likely also the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT) which is part of the MAF housing. Both are probably malfunctioning. This can be due to an overused/very dirty air filter, or even an aftermarket air filter (that uses oil on the filter element), or diriving in very dusty/dirty areas.

2 fixes.
1) Get MAF cleaner of Electrical connection cleaner in a spray can from your local auto parts store. Locate the MAF, which is on the intake tube, drivers side, just after the air filter. It is held down by 2 hex screws. remove it (try not to touch the metal with your hands, and DO NOT touch the little sensors that look like wire resistors you will see inside, if you touch them, it will no longer work!), spray it VERY WELL with the cleaner (use the whole can if you feel the need) let dry in ambient air for at least 10 minutes, re-install and like magic, your car will start & run, probably better than before you had the issue. The CATCH IS, this can end up being a short term fix, may happen again after 10 miles, or 20,000 miles, but it will more than likely happen again.
2) Replace the MAF with a new unit, or have your vehicle serviced under warranty, and have the dealership replace this part.

P0102 Grand Prix

P0102 is ---- mass or volume air flow circuit, low input.
Check the wires going to the maf sensor and at the connection. If all seems ok, you might need a new sensor, seeing how it ran a little better when disconnected.
