Cars with distributor caps, you need to completely reverse it, You have it on backwards, with out a cap you need a mechanic, the timing chain has broken or slipped a great deal.

A circle is 360 degrees. If you moved the pointer on a clock from '12' through 360 degrees, the pointer would be back at 12 - having travelled 360 degrees in a complete circle.

Half a circle is 180 degrees - if you moved the clock pointer from '12' through 180 degrees it would point at '6'.

A 140 degree turn just means that you turn the bolt clockwise through 140 degrees. Put a small mark on the top of the bolt - at the 12 o'clock position then turn the bolt until the mark is at about where '5' would be on a clock face.

degrees of cam or crank????? NO YEAR< NO ENGINE STATED WOW.
answer, is a circle is 360 so if the dizzy gear is 13 teeth.
so 27.7 degrees cam and 55 degrees crank.
the crank turns 2 times for 1 cam turn. 2:1 ratio.
said another why, cam turns at 1/2 speed of crank.

i bet you did and no not now how to time a dizzy, many dont today
because newer cars have no such thing.

never remove spark wires, unless done 1 by 1,
never pull a dizzy until you learn how.
never pull a dizzy unless you put the engine at #1 cylinder, FIRING at TDC. or you will go , quite mad, hair pulled out, and cussing Tesla, endlessly.. LOL

What is the course of late firing


Late firing or retardant ignition is the condition caused by incorrect ignition timing. Ignition timing is a setpoint established by the engineers as the optimum setting for ignition efficiency. This setting is a few degrees before TDC or top dead center. TDC is the point on 360 degree scale at 0 . This indicates the #1 cylinder has its piston travel at the top
Limit of the stroke. If your condition has firing occurring after the few degrees Before TDC then this can be called late firing. You have a timing issue.

You have a valve hitting one or more pistons, and it is not a metallic noise it just stops rotating.

You say that you checked the timing marks (Camshaft vs. crankshaft) for proper alignment, but it's possible that the camshaft and crankshaft are out of sequence since the crankshaft turns two 360-degree rotations for every one of the camshaft. It's possible that the crankshaft needs to be rotated another 360 degrees and lined up with the timing mark on the camshaft (remove the timing belt in order to do this). Good luck.

Hey!! i took cam sensor of today and didnt change it at all (had to remove to get below it) and now my check engine light is on ??????????????


Since a cam spins once for every two revolutions of the crank, it's possible for the cam sensor to be 360 degrees out of phase. If your check light is on because of the cam sensor (verified with a scantool), carefully remove it, rotate the pickup inside 360 degrees, and reinstall it. If you're coding for a cam position sensor, this should fix it as long as it's not broken - it's very easy for the pickup to get spun out of position while the sensor is off the car and you won't know until you fire it up.

I have replaced timing belt and head gasket after having a blown head gasket set tdc and all timing marks but motor backfires and almost starts but will not please help me


Sounds like the timing is 180 degrees out. You would have to unhook the belt and turn the crank 360 degrees and put the belt back on. I hope this helps!

Try this, as silly as it sounds, drive your car slowly in a complete 360 degree circle three times around in a counter clockwise direction...it just might help your navigation system to find it's way again. Note: make sure the Nav. is on while you try the above.

Did you try rotating the CAS input shaft? Remember that the cams spin at half the speed of the crank, so a full spin of the CAS is actually 720 degrees. It could be that the CAS is 360 degrees out of phase and causing the car not to run properly. Unbolt it and remove it carefully. Rotate the input shaft (the part that mates with the cam) 360 degrees and put it back on, and see if that helps.

Also, just making sure, when you double-checked the cam timing marks, you did verify that in addition to the four cam sprockets being aligned properly, the crank timing mark is also aligned correctly, right?
