You may have an oil reset button or a method for reseting the light itself via the ignition and pedals depending on your year make and model.

I have a 2015 volkswagon passat. And the low oil light keeps coming on and I checked the oil yesterday and the light went off and came back on today. Would they be a bad sensor or something?

It is not a worry that the oil light comes on when hot, at idle, but it should go off as soon as revs begin to rise.

If you are driving in a very hot climate, such as in central Australia right now, you could go to one grade thicker oil, such as 20W-50 instead of 10W-40.

If you are concerned about this, have a mechanic replace the oil pressure sender with a gauge, to show pressure at various revs. It should be approx 10 psi per 1000 revs.

If well below this it shows your engine main bearings are worn, the oil pump is worn , or the oil pump overpressure relief spring is weak.

I have a dodge 1.8L. the oil ligh flashes when it running and my foot is on the accelerator, but comes off when it idles on its own.

It is not a big worry if the oil light comes on at low idle, but it should go off as soon as the revs rise a bit. I'd recommend

- change the oil AND FILTER with the correct grade, to the correct level.
- ask a mechanic to temprarily replace the oil pressure sender with an oil pressure gauge, and with the engine HOT, rev the engine up and down to see what pressure there is. You should have roughly 10 psi per 1000 RPM.

If the pressure is very low, ask the mechanic to check the oil pump and engine bearings. If you are not burning oil with lots of blue smoke from the exhaust, it is unlikely the bearings are worn.

Oil light keeps comeing on ???

Remove the electric sender and install mechanical oil gauge to check that you have proper oil pressure. Bet ya the main bearings are not fitted correctly or the engine wasn't cleaned during overhaul and now bearings are trashed.

Vauxhall vectra 2.2 sri petrol,,it drives perfect apart from sitting at the lights it revs up and downbetween under 1000-2000 revs,,it also sucks air in when pull dip stick out or take oil cap off,,any...

check air filter and also clean out the idle valve also check the breather pipes coming off the cam cover. one goes to the intake pipe and one goes to the bottom off the intake chamber thin one that will be block for definite as they do. on the back of the engine there is a black pipe coming off the cam cover and goes to a metal pipe take that off clean out the ends and you will need somthing like a long metal bit of strip and put a hook on the end push that down the hole and lift out the burnt oil push down until when it comes out there is oil on the end. then that end is clear then. on the thine pipe off the cam cover you need to clean the pipe out and this is the difficult bit the part were it fits to the intake you need to clean that out it is hard to get to but you can do it without having to take it all apart. when clean and putting back together i used an inline fuel filter on this line and it stops it clogging up the line. when all clean out and put back together and check that it blows out the oil cap and not sucks engine should be fine after this. I have had to do this one time on mine ecotec engine did it 6 years back and is still nice and clear run for a few days then change the engine oil and filter. jobs done.

My VW Bora 2001model cant drive on D coz everytime it goes to change the first gear it super revs as though on Neutral, so now am driving on the third gear which uses up my gas and it still doesnt change...

if you are able to change the transmission filters try that first is that doesnt help change the shift selenoids out they are under the filter and the filter is under the trannys pan. if it were me and i dont want to just take it to a transmission shop , i would go to TPS or any parts house and get a filter, pan gasket, the shift selenoids and new fluid and change it all at once. if that doest fix the problem then you will have to get it looked at. but before you do anything right now go to it and crank it and let it idle for about 10 min leave running and check the fluid level to see if its low if it is it will make it do that it may just be as simple as putting transmission fluid in it GOOD LUCK

Oil light at idle is a sign of wear. If it only happens at low revs and this is an old car, I wouldn't fix it unless it got worse. If it's a newer car, get a new oil pump.

Oil Pressure Light Comes On after 10 min of Driving

You may not have put the right amount of oil in your car, your oil pressure sensor could be faulty, or you may have a leak.

By revving your engine, you're increasing the pressure and thus turning off the light and making the sensor think that it's at the correct pressure.

2002 Lancer OZ Rally...

I had the same problem with my 2003 Lancer OZ. The oil level and pressure were ok. Car was fine with no light when starting. After 10 to 15 mins of driving it would come on when I was stopped. It would go away when I pressed accelerator. Try replacing the Oil Sending Unit. It's about $10 and easy to swap. That was my problem.
