Here are a couple things to check. There should be a heavy wire coming off the positive battery cable at the battery post. Follow this wire down a few inches and it should have a connector, check that connector for a good connection. If this is ok then look for a connection box at the firewall,(drivers side) where a main harness of wires run through to inside. Check that bunch of wires, one way of doing this is to wiggle the wires firmly while someone else is watching for the headlights to come on. That is called a wiggle test, so a person can start wiggling wires for the bad connection to show up. You may have to go to inside fire wall by steering column and wiggle there. On some chrysler products the amp meter gives problems.

Have you checked the relay in the circuit. You really need a schematic of the wiring diagram. Electrical can be tricky without the wiring diagram.

I'd be willing to bet your dash lights don't work either when you turn the headlight on.change the headlight switch, it has a short, it's only about 11 dollars at advance auto, and is fairly easy to replace. my 93 chevy did same thing, changed headlight switch, problem solved

Tail lights and dash lights out in 96 dodge ram. all other lights work. already replaced headlight switch. still no tail lights

does the fuse keep blowing ?? it is also on the same line as the cigarette lighter if the fuse is blowing check that there is nothing stuck in the lighter socket that is shorting it out. Could also be a bad ground wire not makeinig contact.

Dash and running lights does not work, everything

The fuse to the taillights/running lights?
It can't be a grounding problem if both taillights and dash don't work.
If only taillights don't work, it would be suspicious grounding.

Dashlights and temperature dash lights not working

Turn on your headlights and check to see if your taillights are working. They act as a fuse to your dashlights, its a safety thing
