This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

It stands for EVAPoritive emissions leak - most common cause is a improperly tightened gas cap
Other causes include cut / leaking evap line, leaking purge valve, or charcoal canister
Double check your gas cap isnt on sideways and after a week or less if the light doesnt shut off check it again

P0440 is a code for the EVAP system it means there is a small leak in the fuel pressure system . This code is not a major problem and will reset it self most of the time if the self test witch that runs everytime you start the vehicle there is actulay 8 self tests that the vehicle dose and it has to do with how much fuel is in the tank if your above 15 % full or below 15 % empty then the self test dosn't work correctly to begin with . You may try changeing to gas cap sometimes they have small leaks and this will croupt the system i wouldn't worry to much its chevy engineering at its finest. If you see it every 6 months or so it won't hurt anything

We stopped guessing back in the 90's when car makers started using trouble codes. So should you. Blinking check engine light means you have a serious misfire. So doubtful that it's an electrical problem. Get the codes read and post them. That's the starting point. We stopped guessing back in the 90's when car makers started using trouble codes

If you have not had your brakes checked over in the past 9 months you may need them to be "skimmed". Take your car to your local garage and see what they can do. This can be a serious problem and may cause braking faliure.
