I would say this car has a broken main earth wire, this wire can be found connected from the engine to the chasssis.take a very good look as it is there and if you cant locate it put one on yourself ask in the shop for an engine earth wire. but take a look for it remember its there?if you find it intact remove both ends and clean with sandpaper or a wirebrush.adrian

The car will not stay running it started and then all the lights on dash came on car died thenwaited for a few hours and car started again drove for quarter mile and died again

If started later on then is probably not battery. With car running disconnect battery, if it quits alternator shot. Engine should run on altenator with no battery. Is likely a bad wire somewhere that opens when hot. One of the most difficult and time consuming things to track down.

Battery is dead.

Jumpstart the car to get it cranked. While the car is running, check the voltage at the alternator with a multimeter. If the voltage is 12V or lower then your alternator is bad. If the voltage is 13V-14.5V then your alternator is good and your battery is bad.

1993 buick lesabre shut off while driving, battery was dead then bought a new battery drove well for 3 weeks then shut off while driving again had to jumpstart it.

Your alternator is bad. It's not recharging the battery as you are driving. The car is using battery voltage until it is all used up and then the engine dies. Replace the alternator and recharge the battery.

Yes, I would sugest alternator, as long as all earth and wiring connections are strong, rust-free and tight.......I would beg, borow and stael a multimeter, and jumpstart vehilce and see if 13.8v - 14.2 v is at idle.....if not, and i hardly doubt it, then alternator replacement, is required

Have the battery checked with a load resistor (Pep Boys, Auto Zone....) The battery may have 13.2 V but not enough current to crank the engine.
