Question about Pontiac 1000

1 Answer

While shopping this afternoon, I went into the shop, came out after about 20 minutes, and my 1992 Chevy Astro van would not start. It has been running a bit rough when I first start it but I had driven over 30 minutes to get to the store. When My husband showed up we tried to jump it and we at least got some ticking out of the starter. Never got it started though. What would cause it to just not start?

It sounds as if your battery and/or alternator has failed. If you do get it started , (by jump starting it) check the voltage at the battery, it should be around 13 1/2 to 14 volts, if not, than the alternator has most likely failed. also how old is the battery? may be time for a new one. The alternator problem will show up on the dash as a battery icon light when this happens, as well as a sometimes noisy alternator under the hood. Hope this helps!

1999 Chevy Astro Van. Don't know exact model # of

You should have a 4l60E in your astro van. Which is electrically controlled, so no vacuum modulator. However, to address the ventilation selector not working... look for a vacuum line exiting the firewall and going to the passenger rear of the intake manifold. You will likely find it broken or disconnected there.
