Alternator not charging


If the light is out, then you have to find the main fuse in the under hood fuse panel. It will be around 150 to 175 amps. Also check for a smaller alternator fuse.

The 12 is normal for the starting code. The 41 says generator (alternator) field is not switching properly. Code 45 says Turbo boost limit exceeded (engine was shut down by logic module). I doubt that you have turbo on the Dakota. However there IS a code 46. Battery voltage too high during charging or charging system voltage too low. That would make sense with the 41 code. Sounds like you may have an alternator/charging system problem.

how do u know the alternator is charging correctly, u should read 14 volts at the battery when the cars running to know its charging. try wd40 on ur electrical connectors in the engine bay, this will drive any moisture out of the connectors and hopefully correct ur problem.

I have 1989 toyota tercel.The alternator will run the car's electrical system but will not charge the battery.I have a new battery and alternator.what the problem?


Check the charging rate of the car's electrical system....it should read at idling 14volts.If its not or is just reading 12volts or low means the alternator is not charging, Replace the alternator and get the old battery charged or if its more thn 17months old replace it.

Is there a difference between a 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo 2.0 when it comes to alternators? Specifically, automatic vs manual and output? Thanks


NO there is no difference for the alternators, You can get a aftermarket alternator with a higher amp out put, but you really just need to up grade your Battery with a deeper cycle battery. This will improve the life of your alternator. Good luck and hope this helps you get you decide what you like to do with replacing the alternator

Charging problem on 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Turbo Diesel


I had the same problem on a 94 dodge with the cummins. It seems the crank sensor that reads from a notch on the harmonic balancer was the problem Without this sensor reading that the engine is running the alternator wont charge. Possibly the same problem with yours

well if the alternator is not putting out at least 13 volts when it running most likly its bad i would take it some place and have it checked again

Mercury capri alternator getting very hot


its the alternator pulley thats defective and in order to pull the alternator you a have to take off the piece with the hoses on it above the alternator and you can wiggle it out
