Question about 1993 Buick Century

I recently had some front drivers side damage to my car. The head light was smashed and the wheel well pushed in far enough that it occasionally rubs against the wheel when I make right turns. I've managed to fix this mostly myself, but I still have a problem. My running tail lights still don't work. My turn signals work, my brake lights work, and my hazard lights work, but my running tail lights do not. I still haven't fixed and replaced my head light, so my best guess would be that the circuit for the tail lights runs through the front drivers side head light. There is little I can do about this, but I figure I could probably get some extra wire, splice one end to the power wire of my working head light, run it back through the cab to the tail lights, and then again splice it into their power source. Would this make a short circuit or would there be an easier way to fix this. It doesn't need to be pretty I just need it to be legal to drive at night.

Mr Pinske,

The rear running lights aren't on the same circuit as the headlight(s). To get the car legal for
night driving, replace the broken headlight (both need to work to drive legally at night),
and tackle the running lights as a separate project.
First thing to check on the running lights - the bulbs. Why: incandescent light bulbs that are
on at the time of an impact cannot withstand the impact and the filaments can fail, so fixing
your rear running lights may simply be a matter of replacing the two light bulbs.
If the bulbs are ok, your accident has caused a wiring fault, which you will locate
between the ignition switch and the rear running lights.

  1. Remove the headlamp trim panel attaching screws.

  1. Remove the headlamp bulb retaining screws. Do not touch the two headlamp aiming screws, (at the top and side of the retaining ring), or the headlamp aim will have to be readjusted.

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the retaining ring screws.

  1. Pull the bulb and ring forward then separate them. Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the I recently had some front - archaeology_21.jpg>

To install:

  1. Plug the new bulb into the electrical connector.
  2. Install the bulb into the retaining ring and install the ring and bulb.
  3. Install the trim panel.
Replacing the European style headlights is a slightly different procedure.

Weird vibration, unable to figure out


I would have the front wheel bearing adjustment checked first as if they are loose the rotor will be rubbing on the pads and the vibration will be wheel wobbling on the loose bearings Unless you replaced the bearings with new ones then they will fail especially if the adjustment was too tight and too much grease was used.

I hear a rubbing sound when i go down the road.when i slow up it stops,when i speed up it gets louder.it is coming from the front wheels i think.i just had the brakes done about a month ago???? help


Have the front wheel bearings checked they are a sealed unit that has to be pressed in or assembly removed and replaced. Or your brakes are dragging and rubbing against the rotor it could be the caliper is sticking or the rotor doesn't have enough wave, warp cut in it to push the pads back enough. Most people think a rotor is cut perfectly flat if this was true the pads would rub against the rotor all the time. The car could be jacked up and on stands and have someone listen for the noise right next to the wheel while you speed up the wheels and slow down with the brakes and don't try for 100mph you could hurt the tires

I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. While driving STRAIGHT, not turning...there is a horrible grinding/rubbing sound coming from the driver side front tire. I had the wheel bearing replaced on the...


If its not the bearing and your Mercury is front wheel drive, it could be the "CV" joints.
It could be both....

Is the wheel rubbing the brake caliper?

Is something like the wheel well liner rubbing the tire(airflow pushing it into tire)?

Jack the tire off the ground and rotate it by hand. Push in & out at the top, sides, and bottom of the tire. Little or no play is considered acceptable. If you get a "clunking" sound and/or a lot of play the bearing(s) are bad. (If front wheel drive, chock rear tires, put transmission in neutral so you can rotate tire.)

you have blown the side light fuse when the headlight smashed ,somewhere the wires are bamaged or the side light bulb has broke and the filament feed wires have touched causing the fuse to blow ,also look under the bonnet next to battery their is a power distribution box next to batter ,check uses in here as well ,they are not markewt though so look for a red 10 amp or a blue 15 amp fuse

That is correct. You need to steer the front wheels all the way in one direction so you can remove the wheelwell fasteners. There are push fasteners and screws with a 7mm head on the front edge. Remove enough of then that you can pull the fender liner back enough to reach your hand in to where the headlight sockets are. Twist and remove them and you can replace the bulbs.

Rubbing noise on drivers side coming from wheel


Could be a bad bearing or a brake dragging. Roll the car slowly with the engine off. Walk beside the car and if you hear the noise, you'll be able to tell more about it if the engine is off. Try pushing on the brake pedal as the car is being pushed and see if the noise changes.
If it does, then you can eliminate one cause.

Will your 'friend' take it back? 1 prob, likely a vaccum leak at the intake. 2 prob, at 'stopping'?? Brake pads. Stopped, good question. 3 prob, either the plastic cover or the horn pin under the steering wheel. 4 prob, This sounds like the exhaust 02 sensor is acting up. 5 prob, shock bushings or rubbers mounts on sway bar. Or the top bearing on a strut. 6 prob, Fixing the past probs 'may' solve this? 7 prob, Just live with this! You have enough on you plate already! Frankster016
