I suggest check this TSB in THIS LINK: Jeeps/misc/TSB/Caliber_1803107

MODELS:
2007 (MK49) Compass
2007 (MK74) Patriot
2007 (PM) Caliber

NOTE: This bulletin applies to models equipped with a 1.8L, 2.0L or 2.4L gasoline engine (Sales Code EBA, ECN or ED3) on PM/MK models built before April 21, 2007 (MDH 0421XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience the following:

  • Automatic CVT models - Perceived lack of performance under light to moderate acceleration from a stop.
  • All Models - Ticking Sound intermittently heard from the engine compartment.

Software changes have been made to improve the above bullet points. In addition, changes to maximum RPM in neutral have been made to assist A/C compressor function during cold ambient temperatures to prevent A/C compressor slugging.

Hope this helps.

There are tests that can be done to determine if the injectors are bad. They involve some special fittings and a dealer scan tool to run tests and check injector return flow. I wouldn't jump to replacing the injectors or the high pressure pump blindly if the transfer pump has failed. Just because the transfer pump has failed does not mean the injectors are bad whatsoever. Inector solenoid windings can electrically short or go open, the injector nozzles can be dirty or worn, but the only way a failed transfer pump can hurt the injectors is if there was damage done to the high pressure pump from lack of fuel flow and metal made it's way into the injectors. That's not likely on a common rail system, because when flow decreases enough to become a problem it will set a fault code (P0148 - fuel delivery error - just as sample), and derate engine power to preserve the fuel system from damage.

    Keep us updated.

Why do i hear a whistling sound while driving sometimes?

I used to get this on my old car, check the rubber seals around the outside of the windows for small gaps. The air passing over the gap can be causing the noise.

I own a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. At highway speeds I hear a loud winding noise coming from what sounds like the right front of the car. And also a whistling noise on deceleration.

sounds like you have an hole where air is blowing past. check for any missing screws or holes. if a mounting brace for any hoses or pipes that run under the vehicle have come loose they could whistle as well. if the noise during deceleration only happens when you brake then it's time for new brake pads.
hope this helps

I have a 2003 ford expedition with the 5.4L that whistles at 30,60, and 70 mph when its cold out

Not sure the significance of the cold part. Typically when I hear a vehicle whistling, if it's under the hood, I always suspect a vacuum leak. A late model vehicle like that should throw a check engine light and some trouble codes if it were a vacuum leak.

My engine is revving upon start of vehicle and the battery light goes on--- it will drive but it seems like the engine is idling too high

if your hearing a high pitched sound,it is probably your alternator working overtime to charge your battery,if it idles at a higher rpm, then someone tweeked ur idle speed, check under the hood,u can easily release using a wrench,

High pitch tone from my 2001 chevrolet S-10 pickup

You didnt indicate whether you ran the engine with the belt removed while replacing the alternator,if not do so and verify noise. Sounds like you may have a vacuum leak, best way to diagnose would be with a smoke machine if not available with the engine cold try spraying carb cleaner around the intake & any suspect vacuum hoses with engine idling look for a change in idle speed or elimination of noise. Hope this helps you out

I HAVE CODE P2187 SYSTEM TOO LEAN AT IDLE SPEED (BANK 1)

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a big vaccuum leak, Do you hear a whistle or similiar noise coming from under the hood anywhere? If so, check all of your hoses. Mine was behind the intake manifold..

Whistling noise under the hood of my Honda civic.

Thhis noise could be a mutitude of issues. If you have some dash board spray, try spraying some on the top pully staying away from the fans and belts. Also position your face away from the expected spray. Water can be used but it not as affective. Then let me know what happened. Later DRRXR :)
