How to pinpoint and fix electrical disturbance in 1998 expedition?

Could be the ignition switch itself. Under the hood where all the wires go into the fusebox in the cab is a good pkace to start. You need to take the bolt/nut off and pull the box and wires apart. I have seen fuse blocks heavily corroded and cause problems as you are haveing. Also could be the ecm (aka)computer in your car is going bad. You can get a remanufactured one cheap. And it is simple and strait forward

My break lights on my 94 z71 work when truck is

Well It ain't the break switch. It's the power going to the switch that's the problem, isn't it? If you run a wire from a power source (Any one will do) to the power side of the switch they should work. You don't have to worry about ignition switch or anything like that. Doesn't matter if the switch has permanent power going to it. The brake lights are only going to go if you put your foot on the brake.

Ignition is locked

Check under the dash at the top of the Brake pedal lever. There may be a switch there if they imitated the Ford system while Ford owned them. Your brake lights may not be working either. Sometimes this switch gets hit by feet and broken or misaligned. The brake lights will verify the condition. Loss of this switch can jam the Interlock.

There is also another device on the shift cable assembly. Together with the brake switch, they make it that you have to either have your foot on the Brake before starting the car; or before putting it in gear after starting.

Now you might have to readjust the cable or rod inside the steering column to get everything to line up and work properly. Or you may need to adjust the shift cable to center the locking mechanism for the Ignition.

The last possibility is that the tumbler pins inside the Ignition housing have jammed the switch. In that case, you need a new Ignition switch.
This usually requires removal of the plastic cover on the steering column and a security bit for the bolts.

Volvo is no different than other Manufacturers in using something like this. The added switches were installed with the purpose of keeping cars from running away on start-ups. It is hidden and seamless when it works, but hard to diagnose and fix by owners.

Brake lights stay on even when ignition is turned off.

This happens when the brake light switch is out of adjustment or broken. It is mounted on the brake pedal rod just above your foot. Check to see if the nut has come loose on it and it backed off making the brake lights stay on. To repair it shove the switch towards the rod and snug the nut down. If it keeps doing this then the threads on the switch are stripped and need replaced. Very easy to repair. Feel free to ask me any questions if you run into a problem, Rich

My car is stuck in park, the brake lights do not work, Ive replaced the switch on the brake pedal and the turn signal switch. Its a 1995 Ford Taurus GL with a 3.0L. I can get the car out of park by turning...

The neutral safety switch on the tranny is going out. Replace this switch and you should not have any more problems. This switch registers that your foot is on the brake before it will allow it to come out of park to keep kids from accidently engaging the shifter.

The EPC In my 02 bug is on and it wont shift out of park. whats going on?

Hello glitzandg252...This has been a problem for many VW owners.
Brake Light Switch Malfunction is the cause of it. In fact VW has issued a recall for the defective brake switch here's the info:

Recall 04V096000: Brake Light Switch Malfunction

DEFECT: The brake light switch on these vehicles may malfunction. If this happens, the brake lights could become inoperative, or come on and stay on, even though the vehicle is parked.

REMEDY: Dealers will replace these switches. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification is expected to begin during April 2004. Owners may contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.

Give them a call and see if your vehicle is included in the recall, you will need the VIN number.

In the mean time ...|VW Roadside Assistance has a technique that will get you by until you can get repairs done.... Here's the technique:

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Press the brake pedal 5 times, and on the 5th, keep your foot on the brake and start the car.
3. Let it run 5 seconds, and turn it off.
4. With your foot still on the brake, turn the ignition key 1/4 forward
5. Shift to a position between N & D
6. Now start the car. Shift to D. It what you really want to do is back out, shift from D to R.

Good luck...i hope this helps. Please take time to rate my response a FIXYA...

2001 chevy blazer motor still runs when foot on brake and key out of ingition

ignition switch is bad ... you should NOT be able to remove the key while running (safety feature on all US cars since 1970's).     Brake switch is hooked into ignition then to shift lever to prevent moving from park unless ke is on and brake is depressed ... your switch (or wiring, but probably switch) is shorted out and/or maybe has mechanical damage (from when the thief tryed to start it with a screwdrive?)
