your transmission switch needs adjustment or broken if you can turn the vehicle on in park setting.

SOURCE: My 2001 Dodge Caravan's transmission is stuck in reverse.

Things haven't changed much...look on top of the transmission in the engine compartment and look at the shifting linkage. Look for anything that could be interfering with the shifting. One linkage is the cable to the Shift Lever and Rod that goes down into the transmission. Remove the cable adjustment screw.
Move the shift lever rod towards the front of the Van into the Park Indent Position. Place the Driver's Position (Dash) Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs.

u have to turn the switch on the left side of the steering wheel! it sticks up and all u have to do is turn it back once! thats it the switch is for the interior lights

Needs piston rings. You have lost compression so you are losing power. The oil is getting pasty the worn rings and entering the combustion chamber which would explain the black smoke and loss of power.

have you checked power and grounds at switch. have you checked all fuses in fuse panel and junction block or do you have 2 blown out light bulbs.

How to get piston in on rear brakes on ford transit 2008 t280

easy buy the right tool or use a G clamp take up slight pressure on clamp then turn piston clockwise ,better if assistant keeps pressure on Gclamp whilst you turn it ,water pump pliers good for this .Wish i still had my 1965 transit with a V4 1.5 german engine ,worth a fortune now as a classic

You need to get a diagonstic check as sooon as the light comes on, dont turn ignition off as thi may delete the fault code Good luck Davelee

This is the problem with faulty reverse light switch which is in the transmission, replace the switch it will the problem ...
