Question about 1994 Acura Legend

3 Answers

I have a 1994 Acura Legend LS... The car makes a purring/grinding noise from what seems to be right in front of me (as a driver) When I turn the wheel to the right it seems to subside and quiet down, my friend had suggested it being the front axle.. although my experience with axles is more of a ticking noise not a purring/grinding noise... also the green light around Drive on the dashboard sometimes blinks when it should be a solid light. The car has 97,000 miles on it and everything else is awesome, couldnt be more happier with it expect for the noise on the driver side. HELP!

Thanks for the feedback, also would the noise be any different if perhaps the axle was not put on right and may be a hair or two off?

Yes the axle may have worn splines or on of the universal bearings might be loose.

Bearings usually tick in early stages of failure, CV joints going bad make rumbling noises which change when you turn the steering wheel. you need to take the car somewhere and have someone put it up on a rack and tell you what part is bad. it needs attention soon and a failure while driving could be dangerous.

I had a similar problem with a Nissan. All it turned out to be was something stuck under the fenderwall. I hope you find something similar.

There is a purring noise on the driver side seems to be coming from the axle, the noise fades away when the wheel is turned to the right.

Sounds like a wheel bearing on the way out. It's hard to isolate them; the right can sound like the left and vice versa. I assume you're not going to do the work, have a dealer or a pro independent listen to it. The noise goes away because you take some pressure off of the bad side of the wheel bearing when you turn in a particular direction.
