Question about 2002 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

2002 Jag x-type 3.0 automatic: When I turn the key to start all of the warning lights turn on but the engine doesn't start. There are no clicking noises just a light hum. The radio works and the lights turn on as well. The car will start after trying about 5-7 times or after a jump start. Once it is running no warning lights are on. The battery is fully charged and the mechanics can't figure out why this is happening.. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Starting problems in Jag x-type 2002

Just had this same problem, starter was ticking but not turning, would start with jump leads but no sign of a flat or faulty battery. Garage I took it to replaced starter and alternater got £270 charge then when I got it back it happened again the next day!
Since found out that it was simply a dodgy connection between the battery and the starter.

SOURCE: Jaguar 2002 3.0 X-Type. Turn the key and hear clicking noise.

That is your first line of attack.

Get a jump start with a "decent thick" pair of jump leads from a friend.

Connecting the Terminals> Red Positive + to Red Positive ...........and .Terminals > ---- Negative --- to Negative.

Once you get it running, get your battery heavy discharge tested.

If its OK, then get the Alternator charging rate tested.

Good Luck

SOURCE: car turns over fine but wont start

I had a similar problem on my car. It turns out that somewhere in my electrical lines the power to my fuel pump corroded. I had to jump power from another key-on fuse to power my fuel pump, because it would have been a real headache to find the problem wire. Have you tried a test light to see if you really don't have power to your fuel pump? Have you even replaced the fuel pump? Your pump might be froze up.If thats the case you will need a new one. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2002 jaguar x type wont start, lights, radio, air

Hi .
unlikely to be immobiliser fault ,so check basics, try a set of jump leads or check battery voltage above 12.5,if the clicking is coming from the starter motor with a fully charged battery then suspect starter motor failure.

Car will not start when ignition key is turned. All warning lamps light up, enginee doesn't even try to start even with the clutch depressed

1. So the car was running normally and then on one occasion you put in the key to start it and all the warning lights flash up on the dash and the starter motor will not turn the engine over. Is that correct.

2. When you last drove the car were any warning lights appearing on the dash.such as check engine warning, engine overheating, electrical charging warnings etc.\

3. Has any work been carried out on the car recently.

4. How old is the battery in the car.

Hi, I have a Jaguar x-type 2.0 v6 2002, and i stalled it and quickly turned the engine back on, then the malfunction indicator lamp came on and won't go off. The car runs perfectly but this light...

The light coming on is an indication of a malfunction in the engine management system.
The cars computer has now stored a malfunction code, turning on the light. A parts store as Auto Zone or a Jag dealer can scan the computer with a "code scanner". Many parts stores will do this for free.
The code scanner will give the reason why the light went on. This aids the mechanic of your choice in the repair.
You need to find a place to scan the computer. Although the car runs good the light is a warning that something is amiss.

I have a sunroof that only works by holding the button down not automatic any more on a 2002 x type jag

That happens when you turn off the key switch, before the sunroof closes or opens at full, try this, with the key power switch in on, run manually full to open and return to close, then, exactly when the sunroof is fully closed, turn off at the same time the key switch, maybe you need to try more than once, must be exactly at the same time. good luck

check your connections. turn the key to the on position and leave it sit for a minute or so then turn it off and try again. could be a security key issue. try a different key if you have one. you could also have a bad starter if none of this helps

Car won't start, turn the key and nothing happens.

hi, try disconecting the battery for a couple of hours and try again but make sure you have your stereo code. if this does not work your key fob may be out cync with your ecu and will require reprograming it is easy on x type , you can do it your self ,you can find the instructions in jag forums or ebay for 1.99

Traction Warning Light & ABS light on.

one of your wheel sensors are bad. if you go to napa they will let you use a code reader for free and that will tell you which wheel it is and you can replace that sensor. they are kinda expensive @ around 100 bucks a piece.
