Question about Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2 Answers

Hi, I have a 1999 chevy silverado 4.3 v-6 2 wheel drive. I am having starting issues. Over the last few years I have replaced the fuel pump 3 times, (bad aftermarket ones) and that was always my problem. So I switched to a lifetime Boosch fuel pump. Well 14 months later my truck died while driving. I had noticed a few month before that every once in awhile there would be alittle hesitation in the flow of gas to the engine while I was driving and pressing the gas pedal. I now replaced the fuel pump with an AC/Delco fuel pump unit and it started right up and drive around for the day. The day was warm and in the 45*-55*. The next morning it was cold around 22* and my truck won't start up. The engine turns over but doesn't start..like it's not getting fuel...I did hear the fuel pump turn on! I had also replace the fuel filter. As the day warmed up it would start up. Next I replaced a air/sensor by the air intake, and I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator. The injectors on the spider look good and I clean them up anyway, I did replace one injector becuase the ears on the clip broke. After replacing each item on the truck it always started up, but I was working on the truck in warmer weather during the part replacements. Then the next morning after the truck sat overnight and the weather was colder in the 20's or 30* and I go to start the truck it turns over but doesn't start..no fuel getting in to start engine up it seems like. What am I missing? \r\n(I did not replace the wiring harness on the fuel pump this time around since I had just replaced it 14 months ago when I put in the Boosch fuel pump.) Thx!!

Hi, thanks for reply...it's 38* now and won't start! I have about a 1/4 tank of fuel, which is about 7-8 gallons of fuel in it. When I had about 18 gallons of fuel in it I put in 2 small bottles of Chevron chemtech cleaner in the fuel and drove it down to this 1/4 of tank...I don't think my fuel is icing up...are there any other things to check, (sensors) no dash light on for me to check a code at least not that I noticed..but I need to get it started to verify that to be sure)? Also this starting problem happened before I put in the chemtech cleaner...so I don't believe it is that!

Have you tried the fuel pressure regulator, or checked to assure that fuel is getting to the carb or injectors... a fuel system is fairly easy to diagnose, if you hear the fuel pump trip then you would next need to check if fuel is reaching the engine, if not then its more than likely the regulator.

Hi, with the temperatures below freezing, and it not starting , are you using any canned heat to prevent the gas from icing? I had that problem with my 2001 Silverado 4x4, with the 4.3 v-6. If you can hear the fuel pump coming on and pumping, and it will just turn over when its cold outside but starts when it warms up, try that. Dump a couple of cans in the tank and rock your truck back and forth, and poor some into the throttle body to see if this solves the problem. Let me know the out come. Good Luck.

Can't be to sure with yours. It maybe the switch. On my 2002, I found I had a Transfer Case Control Module issue. Shopped around and found one on Amazon for half the price the local box stores wanted. I would Google this before starting to buy a bunch of parts.

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 thats just turned over 100,000 miles. For the past few months, I sometimes have to bump the starter more than once (maybe three times) to start it. I've changed the plugs...

A common problem is if the fuel pressure regulator leaks internally. This causes fuel pressure to bleed down over time and makes it hard to start the vehicle if it has been sitting for usually more than a few hours. Sounds like that could be what you are dealing with.

1999 chevy silverado service 4 wheel drive light

I had a similar problem with the Service 4 Wheel Drive light which came on intermittently then became more consistent in the message center display. It would go into 4 wheel drive if the message center did not display the Service 4 Wheel Drive message in the message center, but not when the message was displayed. I found the transfer case switch module in the dash was defective, and it has been working with no other problems for three years.

Fuel gauge problem

sending unit on the fuel pump in the tank is stuck, and needs to be replaced. its expensive, but that will fix your issue. its the housing around the pump that has the float arm on it. you can try to free the float arm by removing your pump assembly, but cant guarantee its any good after being stuck
