It does sound like a power supply problem of some sort. If power is removed/disrupted, the default for the parking brake light is "on". You can see how that's done on some post HERE. It's for another project, but the alternator had to be removed.

Was the original battery replaced? Has the water level in the battery been checked?

Check this procedure about Voltage Regulator - Removal & Installation

1. Remove the alternator from the vehicle.
2. Remove the four through bolts. Then insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the stator core and front bracket. Pry them apart to disassemble the alternator.
3. Hold rotor with a vise and remove pulley nut.
CAUTION
When holding rotor with vise, insert aluminum plates or wood pieces on the contact surfaces of the vise to prevent rotor from damage.

4. Unsolder connection between rectifier and stator coil to remove stator coil.
CAUTION
Finish the work rapidly (less than three seconds) because the rectifier cannot withstand heat very well.

5. Remove screws which secure voltage regulator to rear cover, and unsolder connection between voltage regulator and rectifier to remove the regulator.
6. Installation is the reverse order of assembly. After assembly, turn the pulley by hand to check that the rotor turns smoothly.

Hope helps.

The voltage regulator is inside the alternator, on the brushes support. You must have only approx. 14 Volts output voltage! This is the root cause of the problem. You need to repair & replace the alternator.

Alternator output power: 64 Amp and 14 Volts at engine speed: 2500 rpm

Check the alternator harness & connections and the Engine Control Module (ECM).

2003 forester can not get alternator to charge ..alternator is new , have check all connetions battery is good

Measure the voltage on the alternator. Should be about 14v. Then measure on the battery. If its not the same, then the wire from the alternator to the battery is open. Look for a 60 or 80A fuse in the fuse box. Run a heavy gauge wire from the alternator to the battery and see if the charging works.

99 subaru forester. No power at all. When I wiggle negative battery cable : power comes back and alarm is triggered. But power fails again if I turn key or touch brake pedal. How do i fix this?

Bad battery (have the battery tested) Bad connection, corrosion on the terminal and in the cable, replace the cable, recharge the battery to full charge.

I have a chevy lumina 99 and while driving it the red battery light came on and then the orange abs light came on, it still starts and runs but both lights are on.

Check alternator for output. With car running, voltage at battery should be 14-15 VDC. Suspect alternator has failed, and reduced voltage may have set the ABS light. Let me know if you have more questions.

Battery draining completely within 15 miles of driving

I had the same problem on my NEW Forester, dealer told me to check the litttle switch set far down on the top of the steering column. I had accidently turned it on while cleaning the car. It turns on some tiny lights that are used more in Japan and not easily noticed unless you are looking for them. Sure enough, that is what caused my battery to drain multiple times.

Not sure if it helps but it's worth checking just in case.
