Get the correct brake pads. ive come across this quite a few times. especially with aftermarket pads. i have got away with in the past by machining a few mm off each pad. and im asuming that you have pushed the pistons in the callipers right back flush. but be careful not to tear the rubber seals. hope this helps.

I have a 2001 BMW 318I, E46 MODEL , HOW DO YOU FIT BRAKE PADS TO FRONT AND REAR, THANKS TREVOR.

YOU NEED A PISTON COMPRESS TOOL TO PRESS PISTON BACK IN THE BORE WITH THE BLEEDER SCREW OPEN ON THE CALIPER*.CLOSE BLEEDER SCREW JUST BEFORE THE CALIPER PISTON IS PUSHED FULLY INTO CALIPER.THIS WILL ALLOW ROOM FOR NEW BRAKE PADS AND CALIPER FIT OVER THE BRAKE ROTOR.WHEN FINISH.PUTTING BRAKE PADS ON YOU HAVE TO BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM.DONT DRIVE VECHICLE IF YOU CANT GET A GOOD FIRM BRAKES.

if you go to the dealer they will copy the mech manule it you ask them as they want you to get frustrated and take it to them
so go on and ask and if all else fails take it to them or goto local parts store like auto zone they can preint it off too
dealer is best bet though

Bmw 320d e46 2001 orange brake wornin light stay on replaced brake pads and installed new sensor in front back sensor looks ok

the way to reset the brake light is to turn the key to "on" without turning the car on. Let it sit there for 15-30 seconds and the light should go off by itself. If not, double check how you have the sensors hooked up.

What it sounds like to me is that they didn't replace the "brake sensors" when they did the job. They are a seperate part and if whomever changed your brakes didn't charge you, I think like $20, for the part, then that's the problem.
