A/C works, but engine will not produce heat (hot air). All blower outlets (defrost, cabin, foot) are clear. Cannot locate thermostat. Would appreciate a diagram/further instructions about replacement of same.

I don't have any heat for the cabin. I don't think it's the thermostat because the engine never over heats or under heats in 10 degree weather. Both hoses from the heater core gets hot so that's circulating fine. I have no idea.

The thermostat is located on the driver's side where the hose from the radiator attaches to the housing. The bolts (3) of the housing screw in from the bottom up.
The cabin heat problem is most likely an air blend door stuck in the "cold" position (you may have a defective actuator motor: electric or vacuum operated). Some older vehicles had a cable operated blend door.

I need a cooling system diagram for 2001 Chevy blazer

Follow the top and bottom radiator hoses. Goes goes to the thermostat in a round about way which is right on the top of engine behind the EGR valve. Bottom hose goes right to the waterpump, easy access from underneath. The temperature sensor is located on drivers side mid engine. Look through drivers tire wheel well, you can see the sensor, brass fitting. A note, the top hose where it's attached to the thermostat is metal....tends to rust out, just get a new one and snake it back through there.

Engine Diagrams

Hello. Here a non-photo diagram. Hope this helps!!!

The thermostat is located on the side of the water pump, the water pump is located just above the a/c compressor, the thermostat is fed coolant from the radiators lower radiator hose.
Thermostat :
1. drain coolant and tighten drain plug ( easier method : remove radiator cap, get big drain pan, place drain pan under lower radiator hose to radiator connection, remove clamp, slowly remove hose, allow coolant to drain into pan, now is a good time to remove radiator hose and clamp from thermostat housing )
2. remove thermostat cover / cap ( easiest to get at this when front of car is supported by jack stands and right hand side lower cover is removed ).
3. thermostat cap is held on by 3 bolts / remove thermostat.

You will notice that the thermostat's air bleed hole is pointing up and lines up with notch in water pump housing,,

ATTENTION :failure to install new thermostat in the correct location will cause engine to overheat.

1. install new thermostat to water pump, make sure air bleed hole lines up with notch, install and tighten bolts, install a new lower radiator hose, fill cooling system.

thermostat # 17670-77E00
lower radiator hose #17854-65G20
hose clamp #09401-36403
upper radiator hose # 17852-65G20

Engine Diagram 2007 kia sportage

With conventional cooling system, the upper radiator hose goes to thermostat housing on the engine. You drain antifreeze down, a little, remove radiator hose from thermostat housing, remove thermostat housing, the thermostat should be inside the housing.
Some antifreeze is poisonous, dispose of properly.
Install new thermostat, hook everything back up. Add proper amount of antifreeze to the proper mark. Keep an eye on antifreeze level for a while till your sure all air worked out of the system.

How to change a thermostat

  1. Locate the thermostat housing. The housing can be found following the radiator hose toward the engine. The housing is located on the engine.
  2. Remove the three screws that hold the thermostat housing.
  3. Replace the thermostat.

Note. The thermostat spring goes toward the engine, the other side toward the radiator.

Over heating, could you please tell me or show me in a diagram where the thermastat is.

the thermostat is in a small bellshaped housing which is attached to the engine block. the housing has a hose stuck on it which goes to the radiator. generally the hose which attaches near the top of the engine as opposed to the hose which attaches at the bottom. seldom does a thermostat simply plug up, but it is generally the easiest part to replace.
