I use to have a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder XE with the 3.0 engine automatic transmission. It ran fine when I baught it then started having hard to crank or dieing going down the road syndrome. Very simular to your problem. I had a Nissan technician friend in Tennessee and he told me that the distributor goes bad it will behave that way. Usually the problem can start off slow like mine where it would hard to start and die or just go completely out. I recommend replacing the distributor. Mark the shaft alignment before removing the old one and install the new one aligned up the same as the old one was. Just an added tip the 3.0 Litre engine block is the same as the 3.3 litre engine and theres alot of guys dropping these 3.3 engines in the old 1980 model 300Z cars! I own a 2001 Xterra so feel free to ask anything! Harlan or turbodaddy5@yahoo.com

How do I know the numbers for the spark plugs to a 2000 nissan exterra 6 cylinder suv?

the misfire could also be the coil that is what send's the spark to the distributor, if it is weak it will cause a random mis fire code for any cylinder, the plug wire's on my 2000 xterra are numbered it will be the second plug on the driver's side of the engine, the cam sensor will also give a mis fire code if it is malfunctioning, I have a 2000 xterra that is a night mare when it come's to code's and repair's it is not alway's the first thing you think with these vehicle's, try to change all the plug's and dis connect the battery for 20 minutes then hook it back up and run down to your local autozone or pep boy's and have them hook up an OBD to see if it is fixed or if another code appear's

Turn key in ignition of Xterra 2002 it makes a moan sound

When the design of starters (NipponDenso) in these cars fail to crank the engine over they most often make a clicking noise but don't turn the engine over, what you may have going on here is a poor connection at the starter, disconnect the battery negative cable and go under the truck and loosen and then tighten the starter connections, all of them and see if that cures the problem. If that doesn't remove the starter and replace the starter solenoid assembly, it most likely can be purchased separately.

GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and...

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

Xterra will not turn on. windows won't roll down, doors stays locked. won't roll over at all. odometer won't come up

Do you get any dash lights when you turn the key on? If not, you could just have a dead battery.

I have a 2000 xterra when i turn the key on there is a clicking behind the center of the dash down by the floor and one under the hood around the plenum and we have no spark just put a new timing belt...

I would check your battery connections, make sure they're snug. If they're fine, try jump starting your Xterra, the battery may be dead or close to dead.
Hope this helps!

Ihave a 2000 xterra that over heats.

If the serpentine belt is tight and not worn, it's most likely a water pump issue.
