We have a similar prob with a '93 Saturn SL1. Engine & electrical
(including headlights) intermitently cut out.
Seems like key is switched off, but is probably
lack of voltage to fuel pump. Battery & cables
good - no prob cranking, etc. Alternator light
has been flickering, but is charging. I'm
figuring a loose connection, but can't find a
diagram. Chiltons seems worthless - dosn't make
sense. Haven't found a Haynes yet. If you find a solution, please let us know, we'll do likewise. lee_125@hotmail.com

check for loose wires on the alternator and battery. check for loose earth wires. If a bump is causing the problem then there is something loose some where so check all connections including the connections to the ecm

On the 1997 Saturn SL1 where is the A/C Compressor mounted, offset or center?

You surely can see the drive accessory belt

It goes around the A/C Compressor Clutch

The Compressor doesn't look like any other
item belt driven, such as the alternator or
power steering pump

So offset or center meaning what?

You haven't even looked for it, or you
don't know what it looks like?

96-99 SL1, SC1, SW1. Avoid the 2 models, they are DOHC and have different gear ratios

Interminently Losing Power 97 Saturn SC2

Hmmm, as to on-again, off-again engine power, it may be the electrical connector that runs from the electronic control unit. Read this diagnostic article, as it seems similar to your situation:

You might also want to read up on engine overheating since you say you seem to have that:

Hope this helps!

spray some carb cleaner on the passeger side of the intake manifold, right behind the alternator. it is very common for those to leak there and cause those exact problems
