Brake lights stay on while driving. If you slightly press the brake pedal they go off but for only 5 seconds then come back on again. I replaced the brake light switch under the pedal but didn't help.

The stop light switch under the dash is adjustable..it slips out and that causes the brake lights to stay on. It is difficult to get to (gotta undo the steering column) but with the brake pedal pushed down simply slide it towards the brake lever a couple of "cliks"....BAM...Done like butter

You have a brake switch under the brake pedal in the car. usually they have 2 wires conected to it.. take the wires off and switch them. that should fix the problem the only other thing i can think of is that the brake switch under the petal is going bad

On My 1998 Toyota Camy when the car is on my brakes lights wont go off but if the car its off the brake light work fine why??

These Toyotas had daytime running lights. The headlights and the taillights turn on when you start the car. If you press the brake pedal, the rear lights (and the brake light in the rear window) should come on brighter.

I have never heard of the brake light staying on (The brighter filament in the two-filament bulb). Hope this helps.

Why do Brake lights stay on even when vehicle is switched of and locked?

The brake lights work regardless of the ignition switch. There is normally a switch mounted under the dashboard, that presses against the brake pedal hangar. Normally, when you press the brake pedal, this switch loses contact with the hangar, and the brake lights come on. If the switch gets broken or out of adjustment, the brake lights can stay on at all times. This will eventually kill the battery. Readjust or replace the brake light switch.

Stop lights wont stay on when i step on brake pedal on 2001 expedition

I had this same problem (brake lights won't come on when pushing on brake) I found that the brake light sending unit had come out of adjustment.Look under the dash by the brake pedal. There is a plastic threaded unit that needs to be pushed back towards the brake pedal lever.Careful not to push it to far or the brake lights will stay on. Hope this helps

Brake lights are stuck on on my 1992 buick Riviera. Draining battery. How do I fix this?

There is a brake light switch down on the brake pedal arm its like a push button switch when you press the brake pedal down the button goes in on the switch making the brake lights come on and when you release the brake pedal the button is supposed to come back out if it sticks in the brake lights will stay on even when your foot is off the brake pedal so all you have to do is buy the brake switch and either replace it yourself or have a shop replace it and your lights should go off thus no killing of your battery.

2005 Dodge Caravan . Brake lights stay on !

Try pulling back on the brake pedal if lights go off then either switch adjustment or the brake booster is allowing the pedal to drop down if it's running (vacuum) or brake pedal mechanism is binding.

Brake lights stay on

I believe this is most likely a faulty or stuck brake light switch. The lights are actuated when depressing the brake pedal thus closing the circuit in the switch usually attached to the upper end of the pedal near the hinge.

Jaguar x type brake lights stay on

the brake light switch has either moved out of the bracket just above the brake light pedal or the brake light switch itself is faulty.
look just above the brake pedal, there should be a switch on a bracket so that when you press the brake pedal the spring plunger piece of the switch moves out and the lights come on. make sure the plunger goes in when the brake pedal goes back to normal position.if the lights stay on when the plunger is pushed in the switch is faulty and needs changing, quite common. hope this helps

With the ignition off, the rear tail lights won't turn off

hiya if the rear lights are remaining on ? with no ignition it will be the brake lights staying on this is easily remendied/ checked by trypulling the brake pedal up by hand and see if lights go off ? if so then you will need to adjust the b/light switch which is positioned adjacent to pedal and can be screwed inwards towards the pedal untill the plunger on switch is pushed into the switch which puts lights off ensure pedal is fully up then adjust switch reconnect the wire/plug and press pedal slightly to ensure b/lights operate ok and then go off with pedal released ? on hyundai the brakelights do not req ignition on to operate hence more likely problem is as above good luck
