Question about 2006 Saturn Vue

2 Answers

I have read a problem someone posted about their 2006 Saturn Vue with the v6 shuttering. We were pulling an empty single axle trailer with a GVWR of about 700lbs this weekend. We pull our camper with no problems, so this was not an issue. I was told by Saturn (before they went belly up) that this vehicle had a towing capacity of 4000lbs. I asked before I installed a hitch. So we have driven about 2 1/2 hours when the temp light starts flashing. The temp gauge was only 1/4 up. I pulled over and there was the smell of burnt tranny fluid. We were only 2 or 3 miles from the motel, so we continued. The next morning the light was off, but now the vehicle shutters at low speeds.... in the 35-50 mph range, kinda like it has bad gas. I read on here that changing the tranny fluid fixed the problem. I called GM and spoke with them and they said there was a recall on reprogramming the powertrain module and it would take 2-3 hours? Seems kinda long for a reprogram, but I am not a mechanic. He told me that since I have not ever had the fluid changed that they did not recommend that I do that. It would cause more damage. So now what? I just let the car ride with burnt fluid? I am now in limbo on what to do. They want $95 for a "diagnostic" fee. I already told them what it is doing and the only thing they can do is drive it... they cant see into the tranny casing so I am getting hit for $95 for nothing it seems. Any recommendations on what to do? To change the tranny fluid or not change the tranny fluid.... that is the question! LOL. And with the reprogram really affect what it is doing now? If you really push the car hard from a dead stop, it shifts strong and fine. It only shutters with "regular" driving. Thanks!

There is in fact a recall on this. Our car would shutter at speeds from 25-45 mph. We didn't think much of it but it kept doing it and not at consistent intervals at all. I just got a letter from Saturn letting me know about the recall. If you bring your car to a GM service center, they should know all about it. The first step is the reprograming. they thought it would take 45-75 minutes and about 3 hours later I left (mostly cause they were too busy). I took the car home and a few days later it didn't fix the problem. I just set up an appt to get the car repaired on GM.I don't remember what they are replacing but its a 2-3 day repair so its a pretty massive undertaking. GM is supplying a rental car and everything. They said that only 1-2 percent of the cars with the issues should need this second repair though he admitted that GMs percent is a little low.

Don't pay to have your fluids flushed...this is something GM will fix for free.

There is a recall (you should receive letter) to reprogram the power train module.
If the shudder continues after the reprogramming, GM will replace the torque converter. The scheduled maintenance for trans fluid change is at 100K miles.
If the torque converter is going to be changed as part of the recall, the fluid will be changed during the repair.

Can I pull a Jayco camper trailer with my 2003 saturn vue 4 cylinder

Any vehicle can tow a trailer, but you have to think about the ability of it to brake hard if you need it to. In your case I would say no problem. A braked trailer helps.

I have a 2006 saturn vue v6. making a loud noise in the front. what is it? :)

Thats a vague problem description.
could be brakes, suspension, drive train.

If it's a scary sound get some body to check it out, because a failed suspension or brake problem is dangerous

I bought a saturn vue with a Honda v6. I can't find the trans-axle dipstick where the manual says. can you help?

Hey Guru???
What'd you do rank yourself a guru? Cause you sure don't KNOW what you're talking about.
Honda V6 3.5 engine is in the 2004-2007 Saturn Vues with 6 cylinder engines. It is the ONLY V6 offered. The old version was from Opel.
The trans dip stick is on the right side of the engine while the oil stick is front left.

Only the V6 Engine is made by Honda. The I4 is made by GM.
Honda agreed to supply GM with some of their engines in exchange for GM supplying them with some diesel engines
