1988 Nissan Pathfinder 3.0. I just experienced this same exact issue with my Daughter's vihicle. This issue, once all the above is true, checking coil, wires, grounds, fuses, etc. HAS to be the timing belt or the distibutor Pickup Module, or what they call the Elctronic Ignition Module. Since these are a Non-Serviceable item on this distributor one has to change out the lower portion of the Distibutor which really sucks when on my Chevrolet trucks one can just change out the electronic ignition module for $40 and go on. Anyhow, I changed out her Distributor since we just put a timing belt in her 1988 Nissan pathfinder about 6 months ago. Also, you can check to see if it is not broken by checking for air to release ( take the # 1 Cylinder Spark plug out and put your finger over the hole, have a buddy turn engine over ) when at top dead center "TDC". If air does not escape and push your finger away then your timing belt is definitley broken or jumped off. An easier way to check this is typically if the Distributor's shaft turns, and the Rotor button turns then your timing belt is still on and not broken. However, this DOES NOT mean your vehicle's timing belt is still in time, ( most likely it is ) for the timing belt may have jumped a tooth or two, etc. leaving your engine out of time. I replaced the distributor and now she is on the road again. Thanks to those of you who put some good relative information out here for those of us who need it. I hope this helps support your efforts as well as helps someone else along they way. Somedays your the Bug and somedays your the Windshield!!!

You need to check the POWER TRANSISTOR. It is near the ignition coil. Make sure ground bolt in the back of the power transistor is clean and making good contact.

Also make sure the connector is clean and naturally is connected. If all OK, star continuity of wire harness testing, to ensure there are no breaks in the line. Check also fusible links. Even if the ignition coil is good, if the power transistor is no good, NO SPARK. Hope that helps!

Suggest you check the fusible links near the postive battery terminal. 2 Are Green 2 Are Orange and I believe one is Grey or Balck. If they seem rubbery, they are burnt out.

Repair as follows. Cut the link off. Purchase a fuse holder 10-30 Amp Max. Replace the cut link with the fuse holder. Insert a 10 AMP fuse. You probably burned the fuse link which powers the injectors.

Before cutting the fuse link check it out with a volt ohm meter to ensure continuity. Good Luck

I have a 93 pathfinder SE 4X4 automatic transmission that had full power, new starter and battery. Sometimes it will start and sometimes not. By passed starter relay by adding push button start and it started 6-8 times then nothing. I finally figured out that it was the neutral safety or inhibitor switch on the 4 wheel drive shifter. Just an idea..good luck

Installed brand new starter, battery fully charged, and still wont crank. It starts when I kick start it. 1988 nissan pathfinder. What else could be the problem? Relay switch? Or ignition? Please help

Check the ignition switch, and the wiring to the starter solenoid. Get someone to turn the key to the crank (start) position and check for voltage at the starter solinoid. Check the starter relay and all fuses.

How do you take the starter out of a 1987 nissan pathfinder v6?

disconnect the negative cable from the battery, now disconnect the wires on the starter solenoid posts,, remove the two bolts that hold the starter in place ( bottom one first ),, pull starter off.
installing the starter is just the reverse of removal.

1994 pathfinder not starting

Sounds like the starter needs a freshen up.
Solenoid should be the problem and when you jump the lugs on the start you are bypassing the solenoid .The solenoid is the little cylinder attached to the starter motor.
Contacts will be stuffed.
Hope this helps.

1994 Nissan Pathfinder won't start, even jumping it.

I had a similar problem w/ my 94 Pathfinder. The problem was a cheap security system that was offered in that year model and the wiring between the ignition and the starter was run through this system. The dealership was able to by pass the security system and this fixed the problem. For years other mechanics told me it was the starter but I knew it was something else.

Check tightness of the clamps on battery & make sure the earth cable is tight from battery to engine, also check tightness of nut holding the cable 2 starter motor if all ok there its most probably the solenoid on top of starter motor replace this with new all will b ok.
