The easiest thing to forget is a ground strap. They are usually a flat braided un-coated cable at the back of the motor. When me and my brother changed out a ranger transmission we spent 2 days and $400 on new electronics. When we took it to the shop, they could not get a diagnostic reader to work. $2.76 for a cable, and $75 for labor, the truck fired up.

I am pretty sure i hooked that ground as well but will check on that today when i get home from work. I'll let you know .Thanks.

There are three basic ground systems, the battery, the motor and the body. It sounds like you have everything other than the body. Don't be afraid to replace the ground straps as it is hard to tell if they are "good" or not. It doesn't take much resistance to stop a 12v system.

All ground wires are strapped in, i dont see any flat braided uncoated cable. What should i do?

Why wont my Chevy s10 Blazer 1991 start and have power to the cab I have headlights I have power going to my starter battery and alternator

Do the dash lites come on when you turn the key on? Are you saying the starter doesn't crank?

I'd have to be sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections all clean and tight.

The starter has two voltage circuits, one is hot all the time, the other circuit, sometimes called the starter s terminal, goes hot with the key in the crank position and is wired through neutral switch, if auto tranny. Did you try cranking it in neutral?

When I replaced the starter in 1992 chevy suburban the small wire that goes to the cylenoid is it supposed to have constant power?

If the wire goes to the alternator, then yes. The wire from the starter relay that goes to the "S" terminal of the solenoid should not be hot. There should be a large hot wire from the battery but there may also be a hot wire from the back of the alternator. These 2 would both go on the large post of the solenoid.

BEST TO BUY A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL BECAUSE YOU NEED TO SEE HOW YOUR FUSE LINKS BATTERY SUPPLY WIRES HOOK TO STARTER SOLENOID AND ALTERNATOR.YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH WIRES SET UP TO STARTER.IF YOU GET WIRING WRONG.CAR WILL NOT CRANK.

Hook up battery and car tries to start without key wiring wrong

There is no 'ground' ... the car is the common ground. You are truing to hool the starter to the hot battery. The starter must be connected to the start solenoid (starter sice).

Please go to the library and look at a Motors Manual. If you keep stabbing at this, you will get seriously hurt. Batatery coule explode ... starter might actually start the engine while you are working on it.

Get more information on this before you get hurt.

How do you connect alternator wires to the starter

There is only one wire common to the alternator and starter and this is the main+ wire which goes from the alternator down to the main feed terminal of the starter solenoid from there it runs to the battery + terminal. If you are replacing the cable use one of the same diameter......

When battery is connected the starter engages

You have 2 wires touching somewere.  Possable burnt together. Check the wires at the soleniod one is ground one is hot from the switch. remove the wires hook up battery with a 12vdc test light or volt/ohm meter ck for voltage on the wires. find the hot one and trace it thru the harness cut any ties or remove and coil like cover you should find the spot where it is burnt together or just rubbing.

Starter 99 s10

First disconnect the positive battery cable. You already have the bolts out. pull the starter back and down and it will drop out. do not let it hand from the wires. Disconnect the wires to the starter. Pay attention as to which wire comes off what terminal. They must be attached correctly or your starter will not crank after installation. Then the last thing you do will be to hook the battery up again.
