Question about 2006 Mercury Mariner
Hi All, I am going to relate this post to many different models and places on the ford and mercury line. The Ford switches and buttons are unfortunately notorious for failing and getting dirty and just quitting. Most all ford switches come out down to the switch case itself and can usually be replaced from the local auto store the older pressure/contact switches can be cleaned and sometimes work again.
Today we are working on the Hatch and window release on the 2010 Mercury Mariner the actuator that has a plastic arm that goes 1.5 in. breaks and the button just goes click, I took the inside body covers off, careful but they just pull off , on the window there is a metal channel that shows a plastic piece with a hole slide the plastic hole over to open window . raise metal catch at hatch bottom and push door open. I actually made a 3/16 hole down the pull arm and screwed them together , with the help of the local hardware store screw supply .
The switch is called a dome or courtesy light dormer SW3965 autozone 25$

Chances are it is a door latch, but may be a wire that's shorting out. If you also have a door ajar light blinking on and off at the same time the dome light comes on you should recheck the door latch switches. You could also check the wiring in the harnesses to the doors, sometimes the wires brake and short inside them.
