Question about 2002 Honda CR-V

1 Answer

My Honda 2002 CRV, the brakes seem to be engaged all the time. I noticed it on the way to work this morning, I couldn't hardly go the speed limit and when I arrived at work the left front brake pads were smoking, they were so hot. I looked at the master cylinder and the fluid level was okay. What could be causing this? I just replaced the brake switch yesterday it had quit working and wouldn't let me shift the transmission into gear and then this happened.

The likely cause is the brake pads have shifted from position and are grinding against the disc. You will need to refit the pads.

Any noises when you engage the clutch or shift? Could be several things. If it is hydraulic clutch, check the master cylinder level. It will be on the firewall just outside where pedals fasten to floor. Use dot 3 brake fluid to fill it if necessary. If it is full may have trouble with pressure plate and trowout bearing binding up.

You may have air in the line. Check the level in the reservoir. If it is very low, you probably got air in the line and will have to bleed the system at the slave cylinder. Before doing that, fill the reservoir, pump the pedal, and check for leaks. Repair any leaks before bleeding the system.

Smell of burning rubber rear offside wheel area

Hi there! Check out this link.
http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic175126.htm
this link will take you to a forum full of people with CRV's who are having the exact same problem. It seems to be with almost every year of the CRV as well. Unfortunately Honda has no explanation or solution for this problem. I have a 2009 CRV and have not had this smell, but I have been having a ton of other problems with it. I have been incredibly dissapointed with this car, and will never get another Honda. I hope you have better luck than I, and be careful with it cause I think there are some serious problems with these CRV's. Good Luck!

Brakes on 2002 Honda CRV

It sounds like there is a problem with the current calipers, it would be cheaper to try replacing the current ones with a new one NOT FROM HONDA. buy an aftermarket caliper and try that. Dealerships will try to screw you over and take money from you when its not necessary.

CRV has knocking sound coming from rear passenger side

inspect the braking system for warped or uneven rotor surface, as this may cause this noise and uneven pad wear. CV joints also could cause this if the boots are torn, have insufficient grease, are damaged,or have worn bearings. Hopefully this helps
