Question about Mitsubishi Colt

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Colt 2800 TDI 4X4 D/C. When you are standing infront of the enjin , at the far right back corner of the enjin compartment, past the fuse box is something like a solinoid (I am not sure what it is), when the enjin is running, driving or idleing it sometimes energizes and de-energizes by it self and it does that for maybe 6 to 10 times. What is it for and what can cause it to do that. Thanx

with the engine running lift hood and lisen for a vacum leak and check all your vacum lines. if no vacum leak can be found then replace the idle air control valve.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a big vaccuum leak, Do you hear a whistle or similiar noise coming from under the hood anywhere? If so, check all of your hoses. Mine was behind the intake manifold..

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

SOURCE: VW Golf TDI enjin power loss and shudder at certain temperature

I think i would be inclined to look at the coil pack ,and the wiring for this where it comes from the ECU ,i have never come across this before but its possible if the ECU isnt passing the correct information to the coil pack to fire in the right order ,what about the crank position sensor wiring are they shorting somewhere ?' Have a good look at the wiring and if necessary take the black outer sheafing off to inspect the wires inside

I have a 2003 VW jetta tdi

You've lost engine coolant somewhere, and need to fill the engine back up with the VW special G12 coolant.

Then find the leak, which will be in one or more of the following places -
Water hoses to heater core, including any other coolant carrying hoses in the engine compartment
Radiator hoses
Plastic manifold bolted to side of engine which is known to leak (have replaced on an '01 VW Beetle, and an '02 Jetta, both members of our family in the past few years.).
Overflow reservoir cracked
Radiator leak.

Reply back what you find. If the engine got too hot, you may need to have the thermostat replaced.
