The EGR is one piece in a larger system. Most autozone type places only read the code and match it with a code sheet. This does not troubleshoot the entire system. It is possible the new egr valve you repaired actually is broken. But check the Vaccuum lines and hose around the valve, if broken or loose or even missing, this would cause the same problem. Find a friend or aquaintance with a snap-on style computer to pull up the exact data you need.

Got a 2001 Ford Taurus with 128K miles, engine was rebuilt 10 months ago, for the last 4 months it has been chugging or hesitating when I'm stopped at a light, Autozone codes said egr pressure sensor,...

Sounds like the egr solenoid stuck..Not the valve..When you are sitting at idle,,you should be able to take off the vacum line and there should be no vacuum..,If there is back track that line and see if it goes to a solenoid..I bet the vacuum lines are crossed..One should have vacuum,,the other should go to the egr valve..If they are crossed on the egr solenoid,,then you end up with constant vacuum going to your egr valve..Until you figure it out leave the line off the egr valve and block the line..If you are constantly haveing the valve held open,,you killing sparkplugs and the catylitic converter

2001 taurus lx engine light wont go off (EGR)

If you are getting an EGR code with the "check engine" light, and you have replaced the EGR Valve already.... please be aware that the DPFE sensor will also give and EGR code as well, you may want to try replacing it and try clearing the "check engine" light again.

Hope this helps...

I have a 1999 ford taurus and i've replaced my egr valve about 2 years ago. i reset the computer and it stayed off for about 3 weeks then the check engine light came back on. I went to have the code...

You may be able to remove the egr valve and spray brake cleaner, carb cleaner, or let it soak in something like seafoam for about 15 mins and the spray it with brake or carb cleaner. This works for me. Good Luck

PO401 EGR , the ECM has detected too little flow

The EGR valve is towards the firewall and looks like a flying saucer with either a vacuum hose or electrical connectors attached to it.EGR stands for exhaust gas regulator. So this item has to be connected to your exhaust manifold. During engine operations in order to cool off combustion temperatures this valve opens and permits exhaust gases into combustion chamber.
Your code is saying that its passage way is clogged ,the valve is either stuck closed ,the vacuum or electrical system that control it are defective. I recommend you get the repair manual for this vehicle there are several types of EGR valves and the testing procedure are different for each one. If your good with a voltmeter than getting the manual for this vehicle is gonna save you a fortune.
The easiest thing to do when you locate the valve is to remove it, use gun out and spray the passage way it sits on . Then clean the valve itself. If it has a vacuum port hook it up to a vacuum pump and see if it holds vacuum ( about 3-5 hg's) and its pintel moves. if it does than valve is ok. Then replace gasket and install valve. If valve has electrical connectors then clean passage and valve replace gasket and install valve.Your gonna have to go to Autozone again to have them erase code before you know for sure you repaired the item. Good luck

My 1998 chevy blazer shakes alot and the check engine light is on what could it be i already did a tune-up

I would have the code/s retrieved from the computer, Auto Zone or Advanced Auto will do it for free. You may have a clogged fuel filter or a vacuum line leaking.

Replaced alternator on a 2002 ford taurus, still showing low voltage engine light still coming on

You have to test the alternator output, should be about 14 - 16 volts.

Test your battery too, fully charged battery should be about 13 volts.

If these check out ok, the problem is the sensor or the wiring in the sensor circuit

Service Engine Light Appeared - 1998 Ford Taurus

Take it to your local Auto Zone store. They will hook it up to a scanner for FREE and read the codes saved in the computer. They should give you a printout with the codes and possible problems with your car. You can decide where to take it to get it serviced knowing what the problem is. It's usually a bad sensor. Auto Zone could quote you a price on the part so you have an idea of what your repair bill should be. Auto Zone only sells parts. They do not install them. Good Luck!

Mileage? O2 sensor? Scanner - 35.00 at Advance/Auto Zone - can be a big help accessing trouble codes.
