Are you able to pop the back seats to gain access to the pull tab located in the trunk? If you are, the once the trunk is open examine the barrel of the lock and see if a nut or other part has fallen off, and replace as required.

Lock on trunk won't work with key

puff some powered graphite into the key slot and inset the key several times . The graphite tends to free up locked tumbler pins and allow the key to work.

Trunk won't open

Lower the back seat and crawl into the trunk and see what the latch is doing when you activate the key fob. the trunk lid will have to be open to enable any repairs. Also an emergency release cable is probably visible (yellow handle) inside the trunk and will Open the trunk lid.

Trunk won't open

The actuator may sound as though it is working but the latch could be damaged or misaligned. Also, the actuator could be too weak to operate the latch. If it is necessary to replace the actuator, your Camry is old enough to make a junkyard a likely source.

I cannot open the trunk. I tried from inside the car with trunk button, car key button. Nothing. Help!

Checked all the fuses? I assume your trunk has no key cylinder.
Can you fold down your rear seats? Many times there is a manual release inside the trunk, just incase you lock yourself in the trunk!
If there is no manual release lever or cable with handle to pull the latch itself may have a slot on it that when a flat screwdriver is inserted and twisted it will rotate the release.

I can no longer open my trunk on my vehicle. help! it's been almost 11 months since i've been able to open the trunk and i've been dealing with it but now my break light is out and the only way i can...

If there is a recall, your local Ford dealer should fix it for free. Call them and ask. I searched the government website ( and the only latch-related recall I found was for the rear passenger doors of 4 and 5 door sedans. I did not find anything about the trunk latch.

Is the problem that you can not get the key to turn in the lock, or will the trunk not release when the key is turned? I assume you have also tried the inside release (if there is one)?

If you can't get the key to turn the lock, have you tried putting graphite (lock lubricant) into the lock? You can buy this at any hardware store.

My trunk won't close.

Is the trunk latch in the "locked" position?

Lift the trunk lid and look where the latch is, right in the center. The lower part (on the car) is a square metal loop, and the latch part (on the lid) has a slot that fits over that loop with an inner part to grab on to the loop.

If the latch is blocking the slot, then it won't close. The solution in this case is to take your keys and turn them as though you were opening the trunk. This should release the latch so the slot is clear.

Good luck!

Trunk stuck on a 03 Corolla

I was able to unlock my trunk by using a wood pole to operate the interior safety unlock handle, which is located just above the trunk floor, against the rear of the trunk lid. You simply insert the wood pole between your rear seats, while attempting to locate the handle release. When you find the handle, use the wood pole to push down on it.

Then, I had to take the top of the truck mat loose by using a flat head screwdriver to pry the plastic plug holders loose from the trunk. I also had to use a 10mm socket to loosen the trunk locking mechanism. Once inside, I notice the remote release cable ball had dislodged from its slot. I simply placed the ball in its slot and reassembled the trunk.

Problem solve. :)
