Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Fan, DIC, DDL Intermittant, then broken

I had a problem where after I started the car the DIC, DDL, and Fan would all shut off. Initially it would recover in 1-2 minuts. Within 2 days it would no longer recover, but would recover if I put the fan on 5. Finally, they stopped completely and putting the Fan on 5 makes not difference anymore.

When the key is first turned to "On" but not started the DIC goes through it's Diag process and then shows the normal display, the fan work, and the Daytime Driving Lights are on.

Then as soon as I start the car, they all fail. It is pretty much a hard fail now but once in a while it I wait a minute or two with the key on before starting, then it will work, but this is rare.

Any idea's, I have hunted the net and it seems potential answers are all over the place for problems of this nature but I have not seen anyone say they have solved it.

My DIC and the HUD lights + the fog lamps are no longer functioning, although when the weather is humid or it is raining the heads up display intermittently displays on the windshield.Has anyone run across this problem and what possible fixes are there.

It got the problem fixed thanks to several posts on here with similar problems. It was the Ignition Switch, an open contact to be exact. Turns out all sorts of stuff routes through that "switch" as it is not really one switch but a bunch of contacts and cams that engage them as the key is in different positions, when GM decided to route through it and what not to is a real mystery to me, some makes sense, most don't and it is clear it is as confusing to their mechanics as to anyone else.

Thanks to the members and contributors of Fixya, who knows how long it would have taken and how much it would have cost if not for the information I was able to give them that I found here.

Cause driving along and car shuts off give engine power loss and starting disabled in info center can happen while driving or just sitting idling

Look at your ignition switch for a recall. Tough to know for sure since you failed to say what kind of car you have.

Why does my fan keep running in my 2003 Volvo S 60 after the car is off?

It can be faulty fan relay. The relay is not turning the system off.Or its wire short issue.Even with ignition off ,the fan relay is getting power so its not letting the fan to turn off.Bypass the fan control relay and see if still the fan works with ignition off or not.

Runs then stopes like the key was shut off but there is fuel in the injector line with pressure. It sits for a while then starts. HELP!!

Sounds like a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor problem. They can be intermittant and cause the car to just shut down and not leave an error code in the computer.
Most are relatively inexpensive and easy to change, but I'd have a mechanic check it out as not to fix something that isn't broken and be wasting money

Car dying while driving, DIC readouts incorrect

Start out by checking the connections on your battery and the connection next to the fuse block under the hood.
It is possible that this is a bad ignition switch, however if that were the case you would not see the DIC setting reset. DIC setting reset is indicative of a total power loss.

Car stalled and is not retaining any DIC memory

You need to have it hook to a computer to read the problem, it seems to me the computer in the car is causing you the issues.

Heat/ac blower only works on high!

The resistor board is failing. If you wait long enough the blower won't work at all. The redesigned resistor board looks much better. The resistor board is next to the blower motor up against the firewall behind the glove box. If you follow the wire from the blower motor you should find it. I couldn't fully tighten the two screws up against the firewall due to the angle.
