Question about 1996 Ford F250 Crew Cab

2 Answers

1996 ford f250 with 460 engine. the truck has died on me a couple of times just going down the road, but it would usually only die if i was at low RPM and i had been running the truck for 15 or 20 minutes. Also, sometimes it doesnt start right. It will roll over several times and never catch, then i can try it again later and it will start just fine. also, whenever i start it, i have to rev it to about 2500 RPMs until the fan belt stops squeaking. If i let off the gas before it stops then it will die. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like more than one problem but the fan belt needs to be delt with first. Sounds like the battery is too low as it's not being chaged well enough due to the slipping belt. Belts last about three yerars and the factory belts a litle longer but not over 80 thousand miles they can look good and be bad gates belt and rubber company makes a nice gauge that sets in the grooves of the belt and yu can see hoe much is worn Being your slipping you knoe your bad. The low battery with other loads on will deprive the fuel pump or the ightion of the nessary power to do their jobs and the vehical will stall. You can charge the battery with a battrery charger overnight and drive it the next day and if the problem stays gone till the battery goes back down you know I'm right You can test the charging system with a volt meter and even the dash gauge can be right as low is low. 14.5 volts at idel with everything on or thebelt the altenator and or the battery are all bad and noew you.ve been starting the car with a low battery the starter and the fuel pump are likly damaged too. so start with the battry and charge it and put on the new belt and try charging then replace the battery as the low voltage can fail the fuerl pump and the ightion and even the conputer you might have to ( wisper down the lane) fixing this problem.

Can be caused by the fuel filter and sounds like the belt for the alternator needs to be tighter.

Drive vehicle down the road for 20 minutes and come to a stoplight engine stops when you take foot off gas peddle and go to apply brake. To keep vehicle from dying you have to hold the gas peddle down

Have you changed the timing belt? or timing belt guides? How many miles? This does not necessarily have to do with fuel.... Could have to do with air intake or timing as well....

My 2003 Ford Focus dies when idling after a little road trip.

have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle

I have a 2000 ford windstar that I bought last monday, it died last tuesday. go figure. I was driving down the road and it just died with no warning at all just stopped. I had it towed then the next day go...

You have O2 Sensor Codes

I believe you have a bad fuel pump,
thus low pressure and the O2 Sensors,
set a lean fault code

Check fuel pressure at the rail when you turn
the key to start or it is running

Changing spark plugs is something that
never has to be done to find out what issues
you have.
You could throw away a couple and it should start

Also NO Parts EVER get Changed until
TESTED and found to be bad

The car when hot or cold may stumble and/or die at a stop sign and it may also do it going 70 mph down the road. It will catch itself and start running.

This may be the early sign of a blown head or gasket. Check your coolant to make sure it doesn't have oil in it or appear to be oily. This is the first thing that I would check.
