Question about 1999 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

The first time I start my 96 2500 diesel every morning it starts great but then in about 5 seconds it starts to starve for fuel and I have to hold the accelerator down or it will go dead. After the first start up of the day it starts fine until the next morning. Where do I start?

It sounds like the sendary or low volume pump is not working when cold ! Its also possible that the primary pump is doing the same thing ! There are updates on parts to move or consolidate both pumps ! Basically when you first start your truck your running on the fuel thats already in the fuel housing and then it runs out or low due to insuffecient supply !

My 2 ltr diesel fiat scudo has failed to start 3 time this morning. Turns over but wont fire. After15 mins it starts. Had the keys checked and are ok. Anyone have any ideas.

Hi Kevin:
Diesels are great.
If they turn over, they will start unless they have no fuel.
For some reason, the fuel shutoff (solenoid) is not releasing when your key is turned on.
I'd start by checking for power at the solenoid when you turn the key to the on position. You should hear a click or see some movement.
The problem could be the switch, the connections or wires, or the solenoid.
You get to play detective and track it down.
Cheerfuls.

I have a Kubota B2710 that acts like it's starving for fuel and after about 30 seconds of that it clears up or you can cut it off and and restart it and it runs fine for about a minute before it starts...

check if cold start valve or sensor not malfunctioning, choke unit set to rich. negative valve clearance normally creates a similar problem.Importantly engine management wires should be checked including efficiency of spark.

Foel problem

When you smelt fuel, It was flooded. Your best bet would be to replace the spark plugs. Gas will foul them out, just like oil.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
